WIP Suvorov from Legion Miniatures

Aleks Bodunov’s sculpture of generalissimo Suvorov for Legion Miniatures requires some study before the paints can come into play.

The man we are talking about is of course this one:


The bust on my bench is rather different from the one on the box, a change for the better with a full array of 11 medals and orders! Let's dig into the matter.

A&B Sash and star of the Order of Saint Andrei the First-called:

Small 'a' can be painted as the ribbon of the George order.

The seven medals between the lapels of our Aleksander Vasilyevitch will be treated in the next part.

Before we delve into the man's metalwork, one small mistake has to be corrected: the small triangles beneath the Vladimir star (E) have to be added, ref to the picture of the actual star.


Now on to the bling!

Any issues popping up or corrections needed will be tackled while painting.

Some of Suvorov original medals & breast stars are on display in the "State Memorial Museum Aleksander Suvorov" in Sankt Petersburg, having survived two centuries of turbulent Russian history. They are of the early handmade, embroidered kind, not in the later jewellery versions as on this bust.

The portrait of the man by Sergei Pen shown in my intro, on which this bust seems to based, is in the collection of the "Central Naval Museum, Центральный военно-морской музей", also in St Petersburg.

Biographies in Russian abound, the only one in English as far as I know is "The art of Victory" by Philip Longworth

Now all we need to do is paint!
