Thanks mate, I decided on only one Greave for the Tesserarius, being a junior officer on lower pay stretching to two was a bit much for him. I read that they would be worn singularly or as pair. If as a single Greave it would be on the shield side protecting the shin from low blows with the shield protecting head and upper body. It will be a bit of bling like his phalera medals won in previous engagements, denoting his stature amongst the men and his swagger in battle.

Thank you mate, I’m looking forward to the painting process and will try not to rush it. Been researching the Scutum shield designs and want something distinctive but different to how many depict them.

This is looking great Marcus, cannot wait to see it painted up now.
Steve

Hi Steve, thanks. I think the Reedees heads perfectly capture what I wanted to depict in the scene. For painting, seeing how others have tackled the figures will paint up the armour, helmets and shields first then tackle the faces with the cloth of their Tunica, Focale (scarf) and Baccae (breeches). With weapons being last.

The Galea (helmets), weapons and shields will be attached last to give greatest access for painting, as will the shoulder segmented armour.

Looking forward to the process and working on the skin tones, to turn each into a unique character.

Hi Marcus,
must say, this is one of the best projects on the Forum at the moment and certainly has me captivated, your skill with putty and dedication to detail are 100 procent and very inspiring. Absolutely love what you have accomplished up to now, and am waiting for more…..bravo

Pete

Thank you Pete, very much appreciated. I love this kind of involved project, just starting the painting process’s now. When I have advanced a little will post some more images, I’m just trying to work out best colour for the armour. I’m leaning toward a dark, burnt steel. They wouldn’t have had chrome or bright metal work first century, decisions decisions.
