Thank you Steve, I’ve said it before but the head/face gave me his character to work on and the motivation to turn him into the figure that’s now finished. As a battle hardened officer he would be a respected hard man within his legion, with the swagger of someone who was a fearsome opponent in battle.Well done mate, if this is setting the standard for the rest of the figures it's going to be a stunning diorama.

Thanks mate, I did think about adding a Aquilifer, thought it may detract from the other figures in the scene. I like the idea of scratching a standard though and may yet make one stuck in the ground like a rallying point for the men in the fight.Totally agree with you Steve ....this fellow certainly looks the backbone of the his unit who are now fighting for their existence ....
Hey there's a idea .......add a eagle or standard bearer .........just saying ....lol
Great update on the figure look forward to the others
Happy benchtime

To late, I’m a gluten for punishment.DON'T DO IT MARCUS!
I listened to him and I've gone from 5 easy figures to 7 and a headache !
Thank you, I’m used to long diorama projects, the process of making is the fun part for me and very rarely do I get bored of an idea once it’s locked and I’m committed. Really loving this project and learning lots as I go.Amazing stamina to take this on and even get it to the painting stage, I would have bottled out ages ago, I think the masses are now cheering you on through the painting stages and onto the winning post, a truly brilliant project.

Thank you Ken, still a long way to go and not all decisions have been made in the build, that excites me as much as I’ve made so far.I'll say this Marcus, you certainly don't do small projects! This one is looking really nice.
Cheers,
Ken

Thank you for the correction, must remember Signifier. I want him holding the fresh wound as it’s the last stand of the ninth. I like the other ideas you have so will try and incorporate some of that. Thank you again.Love the addition of the Signifer. I believe an Aquilifer carried the eagle, the signifer the Legion standard.
I know with something like this you get all kinds of suggestions and opinions, so here is another. I would have him holding his gladius in his right hand at the ready (same position it is now, but holding the gladius) with his left arm dangling injured, and perhaps his round shield lying on the ground, damaged or some such. Have his head looking upward a little more, as if he is ignoring his wound and looking for potential threats to the standard. This would give him a more defiant air, still ready to fight to the end, while showing that he is seriously injured.
Regardless, its a great addition!
