Weathering a few of the figures today, never tried Airbrushing oils before, think the result is okay. I also started work on the base, it’s at an early stage now waiting for the PVA wall filler mix to set, I added some additional decoration but need it all to dry before doing any more on that.

Thank you mate, I redid the weathering as to dark first time round. Ive attempted to show that these legionaries were quite dirty, having apparently marched three days then straight into battle at Camulodunum.

I looked at soil samples around Colchester (Camulodunum) including the stone, to see what colour would be appropriate.

Thank you mate, yeah I know. Geek of the week. :)

Definately not geeky make , blooming great modelling ...the highlight of the year for me to see this progress from bits in a box and a "bit" of putty ...lol

Painting looks really good ...may I perhaps suggest you take back the blue scarf to a lesser slightly darker colour ......that's still my favourite figure though

Are you weathering the Celt shield ?

Out of interest what's the actual groundwork dimensions ?

Good pics as well

Thanks for sharing

Bring on that groundwork ...can't be a bit of blood soaked mud !

Happy benchtime

Marcus you got there and we all loved watching it come to completion, the inspiration and tips that you have given many of us is priceless, I don't think I would have the stamina for a project like this but I am really glad that guys like you do..... Simply wonderful work.

Thanks mate, it’s really nice to know so many are enjoying and following the build. I don’t claim to be the best modeller, have learned so much since returning to the hobby in 2015, love the community, the skills and knowledge I’m learning that make me passionate to want to do and create more.

I will darken the blue scarf a little, I actually like the vibrancy but agree that during the heat of the battle best bib and tucker would be a little more weather beaten.

Not weathered some of the items like the Celtic shield or two of the figures I’ve just worked on, should be doing that and working on the base and groundwork this weekend to bring it all together.

ref the dimensions, roughly 9x9 inches square, so quite a tight base for 1/16 but hopefully doesn’t look cramped. The style of shield wall fighting the Romans deployed helps, even though my scene is slightly less disciplined and fragmented. Hopefully that confusion of ranks and mix of cohorts indicates the last throws of an army about to be defeated, as recorded at Camulodunum.
