This is FeR's 75mm sculpt on which I decided to try some fancy filagree painting. I didn't want to over do it with the pattern stuff, just enough to denote a little wealth on this fellow, but not so much that he would come across like a Renaissance version of Don Cherry (that's for the Canadians here, the rest of you can google him, it's worth it.)
As always I painted this in oils over an acrylic undercoat.

Hi Glenn

Love the attitude of this piece , lovely colour choices as well , agree with Del ref embroidery

Be interested to see how embroidery is tackled by you ..

...did you paint the carpet corner as well ?

Thanks for sharing

Brilliant piece, great brush work.

I look forward to seeing someone produce a 120 on this kind of subject.

Thanks Nap. I wish I could say there was a trick but the truth was that I used my smallest Windsor-Newton series 7 series 000 and my opti-visor and just got stuck in. I painted the embroidery in thinned oils, laying in the general pattern with a darker umber colour, and going back in with yellow ochre and titanium white to pick out high lights. As for the carpet, I used a colour printed pattern I got off of the googles, and then went over it in oils (after sealing the paper with some clear flat acrylic) to sharpen up some of the details and add textures.

Thanks Alex. Do you think you might make the trip down to Philadelphia for MFCA in April?

I don't think so. I am working right now on a huge 75 mm vignette including 4 figures.. it will not be ready until maybe may or june :(

Very nicely painted and presented.
Just the right level of panache.

Cheers,
Andrew

P.S. I Googled Don Cherry and immediately regretted not having my sunglasses to hand:eek:.
