Hi guys :) ! After being inspired by Jason's beautiful single figure study of a ACW soldier,I decided to do something similiar for WW1. I got the basic idea from the book "In The Service Of The Kaiser". The head is from Hornet, the hands and pipe from Historex, boots from Verlinden and the Jager shako from Bill Horan's F-P accessories set. The figure is depicted wearing a cut-down M-1915 greatcoat, the so-called Grahenmantel or trenchcoat. The base groundwork is florist foam and some spare Historex parts. The bulk of the figure is from 2-part epoxy putty. I'll add the groundwork material next. Thanks for looking and cheers !

Thanks,Xenofon, your opinions are always highly valued (y) !! I'll be working on the groundwork first before I start on the figure, but I promise it will be soon ! Cheers.
Kenneth.

Marc,my friend, your encouragement is always appreciated.Yes,it's a one-off figure as I don't think my skills are that proficient yet for commercial purposes. Cheers !
Kenneth

Thank you very much,Guy;I'm aiming to finish him in time for Boston as one of my exhibits.Do wish me luck ! Cheers.

Thank you very much,Brian,I really appreciate the positive comments ! The buttons were made using Bill Horan's method(a small roll of putty, cutting little bits off and shaping the buttons on the figure itself) and lots of practice ;) ! I'm still trying to be consistent "button-maker" with this method ! Cheers.
Kenneth.

Wow, Kenneth! Really nice figure and pose. You're always so imaginative and human in your approach. Skillful sculpting with more than a little finesse also! That pipe is perfect!

Isn't "In the Service of the Kaiser" a fun book? There's a potential figure on every page, almost!

I suppose the beard and shako could be misleading, but he almost looks more "Landsturm" than "Jager". Whatever...

all the best,
Dan

Thanks for the encouragement,Dan;I felt I'd "owed" you a new WW1 figure after my spree of Peninsular war figures ;) ! Yes,the "Kaiser" book is AWESOME to say the least and the figure modelling potential is indeed limitless. I wanted to show a war-weary veteran having a well-deserved break behind the lines, hence the heavy beard and well-worn shako cover. Anyway,I've added some more detail to the figure in the meantime and will post some more pictures tomorrow. Thanks and cheers !
Kenneth

Kenneth - I enjoyed the digression of the Peninsular figures also, but the Great War is my 'passion', as you know. As for "owing" me a WWI figure, consider the debt paid in full.

Responding to Jason's comment. Would you consider casting resin copies of the pipe for sale?

all the best,
Dan

Jason,my friend, thank you very much for the positive comments;I really appreciate them   !! Yes,those Germanic-type pipes are AWESOME stuff indeed ! Maybe that's why Historex only sells them in single piece sets ;) ! Cheers!
Kenneth.

Hey Dan,thanks for the reply; yes, I too realised that the Great War is a fantastic period to look for figure modelling projects (a real transition period between Ancient and Modern styles of warfare)! As for the pipe, unfortunately Historex holds the copyright to that, so no resin copies, Dan :( ! Anyway, as promised, here are some more update pictures on my project. I added a water-bottle which I super-detailed from the ICM stormtroopers set, added more detail to the bread bag and gasmask bag, and added groundwork to the figure base. Next step, painting! Hope you like it, Dan. Cheers!
