This kid is a little too pretty to be Uthred. Gerrard Butler would have been a better pic... NOT pretty and a good sense of humour.

I'll still watch it if I can though... One can't look away from a trainwreck

Colin

Its Gerard Butler Colin, we Gerard's hat:mad: e it when you spell are name wrong;):p
I reckon ol Gerry Butler would be a very good choice.

I agree on Gerard he'd do it justice the other guy is way too good looking I'd see him as Finan more
Steve

Two can play at that game, it's our not are. :p:D

Roger.

I just assumed that Gerry had missed an S out........add the S and you've just about nailed his (Butlers) acting ability.
My choices would have been Christopher Eccleston or Kevin McKidd

Well, I watched Episode 1 last night, and it wasn't bad. The story rattled along fairly well, was earthy, grey and gritty, even bloody at times, and I shall watch the rest. Bernard Cornwell tells a good yarn, and it looks well researched so far. I must confess not to be an expert in the so-called Dark Ages, but it will be interesting to see how they handle Alfred when he appears.

Well....I 'sat' through it....very flat characters IMHO.....Rutger Hauer was the only person that seemed to fit his character.....the rest looked lost or....unconvinced of who/what they were supposed to be portraying (n)
Will give it a couple more episodes.....................

With Ron not disappointed as saw it coming, but it is far too black/white goodies and baddies compared to the books
Steve

The problem with all these dramatisations is that the novels/stories have to be abridged to screen them.
when I read the sharpe series I could only see Liam Neeson as Sgt Harper and the best casting was John Tamm as Daniel Hagman.
With Uhtred I have been dreading which pretty boy they would cast for audience appeal and sure enough it"s an Orlando Bloom lookalike.
The best visualisation comes from the imagination when reading and so I won't watch these productions.

Game of thrones.....read it and leave it.

I also dread them capitalising on this and do the
Thomas Hook series next of Harlequin and Vagabond concerning the longbowman in the prelude and campaign that led to Crecy.

The only series I want to see filmed with lots of CGI, are the books of David Gemmel.

The stories and Sagas of Druss the legend would beat the pants off any of these productions.

If you haven't read them, please give them a try.

Although some of you will enjoy the series, from now on I shall read the book and just ignore the HBO style pap.

Happy reading.

Paul

That's it ...... lifeless.
Few 'adventure' stories work on film as Paul says "The best visualisation comes from the imagination......"
One that did work for me though was Little Big Man. As a 16 year old I'd just read Thomas Bergers novel when the film came out and was not disappointed.
I've watched it quite a few times over the years and as my understanding of the satirical delivery of social and moral content developed I've got more and more out of it.
Still there remains 4 outstanding reasons why I like it now as I did then .....
1. Fantasising about getting soaped down by Faye Dunaway
2. Chief Dan George's character 'Old Lodge Skins' ..... coolest character name ever
3. Richard Mulligans performance as General George Armstrong Custer
and of course
4. Fantasising aboutgetting soaped down by Faye Dunaway
