Ian, cheers for that, maybe it's camouflage for the tulip fields. Always helps to add humour.

Cheers Simon

Rob, as far as I know Western Miniatures are still running with Dicks daughter running things, though a lot of the sets were sold off. Been out of the flats world for so long now I have no idea what's going on.

I hope so, but they have no web presence. I have tried a couple of times to get membership of the Flat Figure Society forum to make enquiries, but don't get moderator authorisation sadly.
There was some mention on an eBay listing of plates going to Attic Miniatures, but they also seem to have gone and some are sold through 2DFigurines, but the list is very small.

The world of flat figures is a dreadful tangle of engravers, editors and distributors. Many shared sets, many where part of a set is with one editor and the rest with another, some where the same figures, by the same engraver appear in different sets from different editors. Nightmare. Fascinating searching around though.

Thanks for sharing these gems with us. The old Death Dealer is a classic. I may put some flats on here, too. Always nice to see Quadri Concept, too. They have done some real gems down the years. Last but not least, the Fredericus Rex stuff. Conrad, God bless him, as a smashing, really helpful bloke who is dearly missed. Thanks again, mate. (y)

Gary, many thanks. As for the judges, at local shows it's a case of who is available on the day, invariably they have entries of their own so end up judging a category they know little about. Still it's a bit of fun and gets figures out on display.

Cheers Simon

Yep. That's exactly what happens. That's how I end up judging AFVs and aviation stuff...

Those are excellent, the Fredricus Rex figures especially, you have a great touch with the shading and details. What size are the first 3? they look pretty big.

I agree that more people should try their hand at painting flats and more pictures would be especially welcome. For some idiotic reason the International Flat Figure Society forum actually blocks guests from viewing images (and then does not respond to membership requests), talk about how not to encourage newcomers into the hobby.

Hello mate. I'll go out on a limb and say they're about 54mm, I have had a couple down the years.

Dear guys, these are both about 100 years old. I hope you like. Both Quadri Concept 80mm, if my memory serves me at all. A Dutch Lancer Trumpeter and (I think) a kettledrummer of the horse grenadiers.

Wow didn't think a few old flats would generate this much interest, thank you all for your kind comments and yes we should lay down a flat challenge, not competition more "get yer flats out for the lads" kind of thing. How does that sound Kev?

Cheers Simon

You're correct, Conny's Seven Year's War series are in 54mm. All from Menzel's illustrations. Really nicely done.

Beautiful work, all of your figures, Simon!

When was Quadri Concepts producing, by the way? I'd never heard of them before, then today, two posts that mention them, in the forum. Are they still in business?

Prost!

Brad, not sure if they still trade but will find out, I was a flat painter in the 90s and early turn of the century, are far enough into the 21st C to say that now?

Cheers Simon

Quadri Concepts: if you re lucky at ebay or Kulmbach. Those figures are gone a long time ago.

Yeah just googled them, now a software company (I think my French was never good), Lepeltier engraved so proper quality. Wonder what happened to the molds because there were all the French Kings and Queens as well.

Sorry Brad but as fesak_j (sorry don't know your name) says ebay is probably your best bet.

Cheers Simon

Those are exquisite. The Trumpeter especially, the NMM and cast shadow from a front light angle is very clever. You even got the scabbard strap loop. (y)
