It feels like I'm starting to.pull all the various parts together now and I'm on the final straight. I know it's taken time because I've been doing other projects as well but it feels comfortable so hopefully I'm not overloading myself.

Any enough waffle, first the Lancer himself, apart from his hands i think the fella is just about done.



His tools of trade are coming along, the lance pennon still needs work, as does the severed hand holding the lance and the pole just needs some tweaks. The sword is still.only in primer.



All the horse needs now is the tack painting and adding the reins



The saddle just needs the metal work, buckles and stirrups doing



And finally the base just needs a figure adding to it.

I am watching this figure with interest as I like the uniforms from this period. On the uniform front I recently discovered that L&F Funcken did a two volume set of uniforms of the 19th Century. I never knew they completed this set as I have never seen it for sale. I guess its off to the bookfinders...!

Hi Paul. I came across these L&F volumes about the 19th century a few years ago on eBay in German and French. Got myself a pair in excellent quality despite their age. Added an alert on eBay and they surface there more often than I would have guessed…

The lancer looks really good , lovely work on the lacing and the face has lots of character

Horsey and the equipment looks nicely done

Oda, Kev, Melanie and Neil, many thanks for all your kind comments, very much appreciated.

One problem with the research Oda, I have conflicting reference on lace work and beret colour, probably have to flip a coin for that.

Kev, there are things lurking on my desk that scare me, apart from them an Italian Alpini and a couple of Napoleonic staff officers for a planned future project.

Melanie, this is a part I dread, no matter how often I test fit and adjust through the build and painting I always seem to come across an issue or two at the end.

I think I need more practice on the horses Neil, which is lucky as I have found I enjoy painting them. As for the sequel, a straight Historex build, re-posed of course and plenty colourful.

I think this is coming together very nicely and I think the horse looks pretty good. You've got a nice realistic colour and a great sheen on the coat. We can always improve but I personally would be very happy with that result.

Thank you Nigel, yes I am happy with it but as you say I'll strive to improve as much as I can. I always have my eye on the next one, which isn't so good as I should be concentrating on the one I'm doing, but I'm enjoying it either way and that's what counts i think.

Dear Sebastian, thank you for the information on the Funcken books. I have managed to get myself a good copy of both volumes in a French language edition. They truly are a wealth of information. They will be put to good use in a proposed upcoming Franco Prussian project.
