Well, what can I say, but I dreaded my session at the bench this morning, not really knowing where to start.
In the end I decided to go back to the Vallejo flesh tones for young Jim.
I started with a mid flesh tone, painting out all the previous work, the started to build up highlights and add some shadows, while trying to keep it subtle. I'm not a 100% pleased with it, although I think it does look better.
I've also made a start on the shirt, using a mix of SC75 Brown Grey, AK Russian Blue Lights for the base coat.

Cheers Nap

Hope that mojo of yours returns swiftly, we're missing your posts.

I'm pleased you like the way Treasure Island is coming together, despite the issues with young Jim.

Catching up here Malc, we've all been there (in my case too many times!). It looks great when you paint it but when you take it somewhere else it just doesn't look right. I did immediately think "hmmm, he looks like a girl" when I saw the first effort, I think the second version looks better to my eyes. Keep going, this will be well worth it when it's done. I love what you did with the map!

Thanks Nigel, my first attempt looked like he'd been on a sunbed, thus the girly look. 🤣
Thankfully now he does look like a young lad.
Had fun painting the map.

I've been working on the shirt this morning, deepening a couple of shadows
using thinned down SC75 petroleum grey, while highlighting with SC75 rainy grey, with a little
AK russian blue lights added.
This may need a little more work needed, but I want to paint the waistcoat first, but unfortunately
work on this has been delayed as I wait for some replacement paint to arrive.
