Hi

My latest piece .....

Stuck for a final title I used the heading because even after around 100 hours or research I couldn't finalize the actual unit I wanted this figure to depict.

Thanks to Jim for selling me this Pete Morton 200mm (suspect scale) Union Infantryman back in Oct 2020 after completing my Confederate 'Veteran Campaigner'

The Musket was twisted and ram rod broken so I set about creating a new ram rod and by using brass rod helped straight it out, Sling scaled and scratch built from lead sheet, brass and copper wire.

As I worked on the whole piece I realised I wanted more depth and accuracy so I set about converting the Haversack so it has a flap and buckle fastener to hold the scratch built mug.

There was no bayonet frog to appear from the bottom of the haversack so that to was scratch built.

Canteen cloth strap was made from lead sheet with brass wire used to create the canteen stopper ring and retainer strap.

The cartridge box didn't get away either being flat on the base so I scratch built straps and buckles to represent how the cross strap is attached on the real item and a brass stud added for where the cartridge box cover flap would fasten.

Some time in I showed a WIP picture to Kev (Nap) who suggested stripes would look good so that was it I needed to fashion some out of magic sculpt (first time using it too), then after conversations months later with a good friend who is an ACW Reenactor I hated the Kepi supplied and first made a Western style hat but then settled for the one he is wearing both which were scratch built.

Nearly the end of the saga promise..lol

The figure is entirely painted in Acrylics from Vallejo, Scale 75, Andrea and Mig, the base custom supplied by Richard @Oakwood, the base scenery was designed and built by me to represent walking through a dry grass track, it was a marathon build and paint and at time frustrating but I do like the end result even though it's taken nearly 3 years to complete :)

He looks great, a long time in the making but the end result more than justifies the persistence.

Agree there Rob

Well done Alan , really good description of the work and a fine result on the painting, chevrons look good , nice weathering on the clothing and equipment

Wow, a marathon of modelling and painting with a beautiful end result. Certainly a figure to be proud of, the painting is outstanding, very well done.

Cheers Simon
