Hi Kaz another good 'un!

Ref photo setups, my recommendation don't lose too much sleep on this. The background & lighting conditions can make considerable difference to the perceived look of the final figure. Only you can tell what it actually looks like, others will see it in their own way. I now prefer darker background as this allows a deeper contrast to the actual figure in my eyes. I have taken photos at night & day using dark, this typically produces a more consistent photo. Also just learning the amount the internal lens & processing of the camera adjusts the light it gets. You need to take this in to account.

Sorry mate that is all totally non-technical & there is much more expertise here who could help. Again though, don't sweat it, if you like the photos, I'm sure everyone else will.

Stay safe,

Mike

Thanks for your kind comments, Pedro, Simon, Adrian, Jason, Michael J, Marc, Felipe, Davide, ALEX, and Stephen!

Are you not affraid to damage them, keeping them on your bench?
No problem, I usually keep them in cases. I put them on bench only when I want to watch, of course I treat them with GREAT care. :)

I like your recommendation, and your way of thinking. Thank you very much, Michael!

I will put it on the base and make title plate tonight.

Dude, you are a machine! Well done. The skin tones are excellent as are the fur and the chain-mail. All around wonderful painting.(y)

Thanks a lot for your compliments, Ruben, Mike!

Mike, I'm glad to know someone say good things about the fur and the chain-mail, because I tried some new way of painting on them.

Hi Kaz,congratulations so far on a great result my friend,i love the flesh tones and the eyes look great, the eyes were the first thing i was drawn to when i saw the pictures,i like the red you have achieved as well and the metal work looks aged and worn as it should be,great result overall kaz, really enjoyed it (y)(y)(y)(y)

Brian :)

Thanks for your compliments, Brian! I'm glad you like the eyes where I put most of my energy. :)

I also like your Western-front and Zeus vignettes too, I like these theme too so they are really inspiring.

A most excellent job! I have been using light colors for primer, but after seeing what you can achieve with dark primers, I think your way is better. He looks twice as fearsome in the photo with just his eyes done

Thanks for the compliments, Ben and Tom!

I have been using light colors for primer, but after seeing what you can achieve with dark primers, I think your way is better.

This method is based on Calvin Tan's way, I started using black primer instead of applying Gunze Sangyo Flat Black on standard grey primer. Because you can do the same effect in one step.

Sometimes I airbrush Vallejo German Orange from the angle of light, for making highlighting base.

Thanks a lot for your comments, David and Ron!

David, this bust is pretty much similar to the poste militaire Viking so I used your 90mm viking and Carl Reid viking bust as a reference. Thank you!

Ron, I used your Carl Reid border reiver bust as a reference too, especially painting work on leather and metal they are awesome. Thank you!
