PBL, my brother, you slay me!
I think it may come to that if I can't get the damn iris' right...what a pain at this scale...nothin' is easy my brother...

Patrick

Criag,
Thanks my friend...I hope to have it done by the DC show; I should. I am having a hellava time with the iris', but I think I can round them up. Look forward to seeing you at the show in August.

Take care

Patrick

I dunno Larry...look at the close up pic, and see the left iris...it looks to oblong and not round...I need to tighten that up...I just will feel right, you know what I mean?

Great idea Graig! I might give it a try if I can't get them tightened up. I remember reading this thread and liked the idea when I read it. Thanks for bringing it up!

Hope all is well

Patrick

Thanks a lot PattyBoy. I've got a tube of Sennelier's flesh ochre sitting right here. Now it's got another use.

Petey,
Lou swears by that stuff...and now that I have tried it, I gotta agree with him. I'll be eager to see how you like using it in your flesh tone.
Hope all is well my friend!
All the best. I'll give you a call this weekend...you'll be around?

Joe,
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement my friend...I am glad that you like it. I hope you are doing better.
Take care!

Patrick

Not much progress lately guys...my apologies... :)
Here is a couple shots of the Viking bust...I believe this is one of those 1:5 scale busts...I'll have the arm and sword done this weekend...
Hope all is well

Patrick

Say want you want about Verlinden, but they do have some nice pieces... :)

As I mentioned before, love the eyes and the flesh.

Will you further weather the mail and helm? A few dents?

Keep going!!! :)

Keith

Those eyes, those eyes!!! I can't get those eyes out of my mind!!!

Superb, I had to double check, and then check again to see if it weren't real eyes you somehow scaled down and inserted. Absolutely the best eyes I've seen. I would just shade/highlight the helmet a bit more to make to conical form realy come alive. Just my two (euro)cents though.

Superb!!!

Greetz,

Gino.

Guy and Keith,
Thanks for your comments...really appreciate them, a lot!
Verlinden takes a lot of critism for some of his pieces, but there are a bunch of gems too. I think this piece was sculpted by the late Derrick Holmes and is phenominal.

Keith,
I will "age" the helmet a lil more and at the crown of the helmet there is a scar from a blow to the head. Any recommendations on how to weather the mail?

Thanks again!
Hope all is well

Patrick

Joe and Gino...thanks so much for taking the time to give me your thoughts...they mean a lot to me. I think you are right Gino, I need to contrast the nose piece a lil more, and "age" the helmet some more. Good catch...

Joe,
Wow...thanks!
I started using this flesh ochre my brother Lou told me about and really think that has made a world of difference in the tone of the flesh. This site is awesome, and the things I learn here are invaluable to me. Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement.

All the best

Patrick

Hardy my friend...thanks so much...tried a little of your technique of texturing the helmet; I only tried it a lil because I didn't want to mess up the entire helmet, so if you look close at the area by the nose piece and a lil to the left and above it, you can see where I tried to get some texture and relief...When I start my next piece, I'll be talking with you a lot more, ok?

Hope all is well...

Patrick

Hi Patrick
I agree with others, the flesh is amazing!
I'd like to see more weathering on the helmet, too.May be some washes with smoke and a bit of rust
Please, take my comment as a constructive one.I like a lot your bust.
Best regards

pd: these eyes were looking at me...brrrrr!!
