Hi all,

Needing a break from my Pompeii model I picked up two 1:87 scale 3D-printed whale models from MiniNature with the goal to do a relatively quick build.
The plan is to pose the two, observed by a diver, in a solid block of epoxy resin.

Here are some in progress shots of the models. Slowly they are coming alive!

Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Adrian

A wonderful choice of subject , very much not Roman !

Already the painting is looking good , you using Acrylics ?

Do like the underside artwork ....

Will the resin affect how they look ?

What's the size of these in the scale ?

Look forward to seeing more on the amazing whales and the diver

Have fun at the bench

Nap

If I may add these fabulous pictures

Thanks for those pics Nap. Good references.

Size...the smaller one is about 10cm, the bigger one roughly double that.

Paint is acrylics.
The underside is shaded in blue (AK Dark Prussian Blue + various amounts of white & touch of turqoise) because any light coming from below has a blue tinge. The highlights are more white/greyish.
I’m not sure yet how the resin tinting will affect everything. It’ll be tricky to get the right amount of tinting. It is easy to go to far and make everything too dark. I’ll also have to up the contrast a bit on the whales perhaps, because the tint will tone things down.

The scale is 1:87, not 1:100. That allowed me to use an HO scale model railway figure.

Thanks for commenting!

And the resin pouring has begun!
Base was painted dark blue. Before pouring the bulk of the resin that’ll contain the models, I’ll do three thin layers with decreasing level of blueish tinting to suggest a gradient to deep water. Hope this’ll work...

The blueish block was the result of pouring experiments in search of the right colour and degree of transparancy.

Am painting the figure today, so hope to be able to post an update soon.

Cheers
Adrian
