Still working on Capt. Mercer but have just landed my next build and wanted to share - 1/16 scale WW1 Prussian Kraftfahrer from Jon Smith Modellbau. Figure is carefully cast, intricately detailed and almost free from parting lines and flow marks. Great work, Jon! Can't wait to get started.

Figure comes with your choice of two heads, a top hat or a cap (but you gotta admit the top hat is way cool!)

PS Oh yeah, comes with a rat too....

I've done a couple of his 54s - they are very well sculpted and fit of parts is excellent. This one looks interesting, and I agree, the top-hat is certainly the one to use (not sure about the rat though)

WW1 Prussian Kraftfahrer X 2 Cleaned and Ready for Primer

Ok, so I'm finally getting around to our good friend the 1:16 scale WW1 Prussian Kraftfahrer from Jon Smith Modellbau. The kit comes with your choice of two different heads and two hats, a cap and a top hat. I chose the top hat. There was remarkably little clean-up to do and it took only a very short time. (Which is a good thing because painting is a lot more fun than clean-up.) I had a slight issue with the left shoulder, his left hand goes in his pocket (really) and getting an acceptable shoulder joint took a small bit of fiddling.

All in all the detail and casting of this figure are some of the very best I've seen. An example. The first pic is an actual Luger holster. The second pic is the real holster along side Jon's 1:16 scale holster. And the third pic is Jon's holster blown up to show detail.

Thank you, Jon.

Prussian Kraftfahrer x 3 Meet Otto

Meet Otto. I call him Otto because he "otto' be fun to paint (ok, I won't do it again, I promise). The challenge for me is painting realistic leather jacket and pants, my previous experience being limited pretty much to belts, straps and boots. Tips and suggestions are welcomed.

Hi Rick

Nice to meet Otto ...looking good , as we know it's based on a actual unit picture , well researched by JSM

The actual guy must have been a real character to say the least

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Thanks, Phil. He does look steampunk. Who would have believed that steampunk began with the German army in WW1?

I have a top hat very similar ..... here's me & the wife in our Steampunk clobber!! You see plenty of Victorian and early 20th Century military gear at Steampunk gigs. The "big game hunter" pith helmet look is also popular, complete with elephant guns. Some of the outfits and accessories are incredible and outlandish, and it's even a "lifestyle" thing for some folks (we just play at it a couple of times a year).

But I'm not here to hijack your thread, that looks like a super-cool figure and I like what you've done with it so far. I've never done a JSMB figure and I shall be following your progress with interest.

Thanks, Steve. Can't do the elephant gun (so few elephants still left in Pennsylvania anyway). Can do the pith helmet.

Blimey Steve - that's impressive. Not just me who dresses up then? The street looks familiar - thinking Rye (Mermaid Street) or Howarth?

Oh, and I love Otto's new clothes Rick, and your top-hat! I've got over 40 hats but not a topper among 'em:rolleyes:
