Very nice flesh tones, which grip are you using ?

Thanks Steve. They are the Rathcore grips. I bought them ages ago. Very nicely made and really nice to use. The wire rotating arm really helps steady the hand on small detail work. Very comfortable to use and the grip fits into a cup shaped base to stand it up. I just love them.

Full details on their website https://rathcore.com/

Cheers Nap. Yep, I think the flesh is finished. Might darken the brow if it needs it when cap is on but I don’t think it will. Concentrating on the uniform now but a bit unsure how to deal with the silver looking sash and shoulder boards on the Capt.

Also, as a matter of interest, there are two silver darts or mini arrows on the sash. Does anyone know the significance of these? I assume they are decorative rather than practical but, as usual, I have no idea.

Hi Graham

I think once cap is on natural shadows will work okay ...

The sash or pouch belt when I do mine it won't be with metallcic but if using metallcics I would say a dark wash over a base coat of a dull silver which will shadow details

You could always take a look at this https://www.planetfigure.com/posts/1101190/

The 'arrows or prickers are purely decorative but I believe were remnants from being used to clear excess from a priming pan ...but happy to be proven wrong !

Happy benchtime

Thanks for that, I will do a bit of experimenting with the silver before I commit to the figure.

Calling the first one of these done. Fantastic bust to paint, really enjoyed it. Could be a lot better but for my level of painting, I am happy with the outcome. Still a way to go on the second but he is getting there.

Good work Graham. I particularly like the varied tones of the cap, tunic, shirt and tie, which are characteristic of officers' kit.

Thanks Phil. I do listen to the advice given on here and some variation was mentioned on another bust I did recently (y)

Well, the Capt. is done but I am not as happy with this one. I found it very hard to paint clean demarcation between the blue and off white so it is messy. Might be one to strip at a later date but for now, they look ok in a dark corner of the cupboard

Learned a lot doing these two though especially using oils so all is not lost. So, here he is.

And both of them together

Tidy outcome Graham. That piping round the hat would be a real arse-ache for anyone. Dark and light colours laying side by side are often an issue for me too, so I know where you're coming from. The face is very good. As you say, a good learning exercise.

Thanks again Phil, much appreciated (y)
