Greetings all,

Here's a comment with only the thinnest of connections to figure painting. Has anyone else ever noticed a similarity between 2 of my alltime favorite movies 'Zulu' & 'Gladiator'? In the opening battle scene in Gladiator, the war chant used by the barbarian horde  to psych themselves into a battle frenzy is the same used by the Zulus before attacking Rorke's Drift in their movie. An earthshaking revelation? No, but I thought it's be interesting to point out.

Happy holidays,

Mike

Here another interesting one, most of the cast of Dads army are dead!!! Could it be a curse...................... Too much Cristmas wine Hardy

Has anyone noticed the final scenes of Return of the King contain what seems to be a very strong influence to Entry of the Gods into Valhalla from Wagner's Gottadamerung

Being familiar with norse mythology, its easy to see how much JRR Tolkien has borrowed, thus borrowing discretly, adding and mixing from others as well. In fact so well almost making it his own creation.

Take the people Rohan for example. Everthing is norse about them, culture, arts, philosophy with the exception of the horses. On the other hand the Normands were of norse decent and revolutioned early medievil warfare with their horses and cavalery charge.

An interesting note when Frodo, Sam and Gollum/Smeagol is travelling through the "Dead Marshes" one can wonder what gave Tolkien the idea or inspiration. JRR Tolkien served in the trenches of WWI.
