Because I want to paint and show him as a fantasy figure I have made a unusual base.

The handicap of the black color for the base is that you can´t clean it really. Before I had made the photos I took a brush and clean it. Looking on the photos you can see "Dust"

And you can see that he had a "curious" eye. I think I had to change something there.

What do you think about that "special" base??

Outside the box. . .

Hi Ulrich:

I think of what you're doing here as "thinking outside the box". . . and I
really like your idea. It works quite well. And of course, we all know that
adding height to a presentation does indeed draw attention, draws the eye.

Well done,

Miami Jayhawk

It was the right decision to make that kind of base. Thank you all for your comments

Bob: As you can see on the photo the stone had two colors. The light brown-grey colored part is so soft that I could drill two holes in it. So it was no problem to fix the figure. For the other parts I use superglue and wood glue.

Ulrich; I really like the idea of the base and the look of the surface but as a whole it is out of balance. There is far too much on top with little weight underneath. A better solution would be to put a shorter pedestal base (1/2" thick or so) of similar size (slightly larger) underneath the rock. This would make your presentation more pleasing to the eye with less dead space of the static block currently underneath it.

Mike. I understand what you mean. At the moment the base is 6 cm high and the stone with the figure 8 cm.

I will make a base with height 3 cm, paint it black and will see, what looks better.

When you see the figure with base in flesh it looks not so high. But on the photos I have the same feeling as you. That the base is too high.

I like your base work idea Ulrich and the figure looks very nicely painted also, I may use this base idea for the a future project I think it works very well.

The base idea is a good one. But I have to agree with Mike, it does appear a touch high.
The figure is very well done though,
Carl.
