    Bigus Dickus... ;)

    Wonderful work.

    The medieval archer. 120mm.

As has been already said , you need to change the curve of the bow , and the detail of the arrow. I presume he's meant to represent and English archer ; here's a pic of a friend of mine , drawing a copy of one of the Mary Rose warbows, with a replica arrow. Notice the shape and length of the...

British Tank Crew - Young Miniatures May Release

Vary nice bust. I'd agree with some of the minor points made above about the badge ; the other thought is about the painting : the interior lining of the hood was the same dark khaki wool as the collar , rather than the pale drill of the rest of the suit.

    WIP Critique German Uhlan 1914

Part of the problem of the rider's seat , is that the horse you are using has a much shorter back than the one in the original photo . So unless you change the horse, he needs to move forward, and have his toes turned out a little.

WWI British Uniform Color and Mix?

Definitely Vallejo No. 70921 English Uniform is a good median shade .You could lighten that a little . Service Dress varied quite a bit , since it was made in such vast quantities , a bit like Field Grey. One thing that always seems to happen in colour reproduction is that khaki drab appears as...

Open Book "Pluck Yew" Longbowman Agincourt - AC Models Review

That style of helmet was not current in 1415 : much more like the style of sallet worn in about 1460. As a wise man once said, it's very important to remember that the Middle Ages didn't all happen at the same time....

Completed Critique Coldstream guardsman, Crimean War 1854

The colours are fine, though as has been said by others, perhaps a little weathering. The white belts wouild have turned more yellow-brown , because they had no pipeclay to keep them clean ( the pipeclay and other cleaning materials were in their knapsacks, which were left on the ships ! ) . The...

    POILU

That's very nicely done. It's also a brilliant piece if sculpture. I like the way you have done the subtly different versions of horizon blue.

Sir John gets a ride ...a1/6th horse

Sir John gets a ride… Well , for the moment anyway. I recently finished a couple of horses, one for my 1918 Yeoman, and this one , for a 19th century figure. The first horse is a rebuilt plastic “Cindy “ horse , but this black horse is completely made from scratch , with a Foamex skeleton...

    Uniform reference Crimean War

Ben-n , the Garter Star is white embroidery on the soldier's uniforms, with a pewter ( silver) button in the centre. The Garter Stars appear on the collar , and on the turnbacks . All the other buttons are also silver. On the backpack ( not worn in the early battles in the Crimea ) it was...

    Uniform reference Crimean War

Thomas just beat me to it... but The re-enactor is supposed to be aGrenadier, not a Coldstream. ( Beware re-enactors : they are often very good, but they are NOT original references . Where's his moustache ? He has a P.53 3-band Enfield, rather than the P.51 Minie which he should have , etc ))...

Looking for uniform & color references...

I think the forces involved in the Kokoda Track operations started wearing Khaki Drill rather than jungle Green. Aertex shirts and KD shorts, with a mix of helmets and bush hats. I gather that by the end of 1942 they started issuing Jungle Green outfits, with long trousers , which were just KD...

    WW1 British Yeomanry Cavalry in 1/6th .

Got him all loaded up and ready to go now... I need a rather bigger desert to pose him on ! As to how it's all assembled, these things need a little planning. The brasswork like the bugle and trumpet , and a lot of the buckles, I first modelled , then had lost-wax cast in brass by...

    Acrylics Sgt masterson

Vallejo 70817 Scarlet would do pretty well. Officers coats could be very orange, and very bright , because they used cochineal as the dyestuff . But I am sitting next to a pair of curtains made of ( modern ! ) Sergeant's cloth , and I would describe the colour as on the scarlet side of red.

    WW1 British Yeomanry Cavalry in 1/6th .

I have been working on this chap for a few months now : a Trumpeter from the Gloucestershire Hussars, Palestine 1918. He's called Stan Carter, he came from Stroud in Gloucestershire, and in later life he taught me to play the trumpet. There are several questions about the uniform , since there...

    VERY URGENT repairing Fimo

I work a lot with Fimo, and you have a problem which is not easily solved , since you don't have any of the original mix to fill the cracks. The only thing I can suggest is that you warm the figure up ( about 100C ) then put some superglue into the cracks and squeeze them shut while the material...

    Help with Drummer boy shakos

I think the answer may be that no special shakos were provided, beyond the normal range of sizes. Although on Home Service quite young boys were sometimes recruited ( seven or eight ) , the boys on foreign service were normally over 14 or so, and though shrimpy by modern standards they could...

    Acrylics English Civil War Armour?

Colin, Black and oily steel sounds good to me , but go steady on the oily steel ; the effect really is black rather than silvery. To give you an idea, here's my fire-blackened replica gorget :~ That shows a fairly high quality finish. The cheaper armour would have a flatter, rougher finish ...

    Acrylics English Civil War Armour?

The armour of the time was usually " fire-blackened" during manufacture, so the effect need to be solid black , rather than " black with silver chips ". There were also bright polished steel items , and I have seen some original suits painted black , with little decorative stars ( ! ) and...
