Another Verlinden 120mm figure, this time depicting a British infantry officer at Waterloo. I had to make a couple of changes to the box version, firstly by widening the cummerbund to hide a ragged join at the waist, and secondly, as I found it impossible to cut the epaulettes from the casting block without seriously damaging them, I went for the single epaulette solution and made one for the right shoulder out of Milliput.

Perhaps not one of Verlinden's best sculpts, but still really enjoyable to paint.

Afternoon Peter

So the pointing Officer syndrome has escaped 1/35! LOL

Lovely work on the red, such a difficult colour to get right.

Another great figure, and not a sign of a bust either.

Have a good weekend with the next victim

Regards

Hi Peter

Always nice to see your painting , vibrant reds on both uniform and sash with the usual fine highlighting

Good display piece

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Cracking job, and one of your best Verlindens to date (and that in the face of some serious competition).

Steve - Afternoon. I reckon Verlinden cornered the market in pointing figures long before they began to appear in 1/35 - this is a really old figure from the company's Belgian era. Still not tempted by busts at the moment I'm afraid as I feel I have so much work to do on improving my figures. Next victim in prep....

Nap - Thank you.

Steve - Thank also. I have a couple more Verlindens in the stash.

Mike - Many thanks. Red is so difficult, but I'm beginning to see it's all about restraint - not something that comes naturally to me.

Another nice one, Peter. Agree with previous comments re the scarlet, nice interpretation & your assessment of the pose is spot on - it’s a bit stiff but it still looks an enjoyable figure to paint; British Napoleonic uniforms can be a challenge but rewarding when done as well as this.

Cheers Chris. Glad you like the way the reds have turned out - not my favourite colour to paint. The pose is a bit stiff and there weren't many folds and creases in the uniform to exploit, but it's a nice figure none-the-less.

Verlinden sculpts, certainly the earlier 'Belgian period' , certainly followed a rather distinct style. I think Verlinden's early success was much down to his choice of subjects, rather than exquisite sculpting... fabric folds and drape were never a strong point. Verlinden really came into their own when they started their 'Vietnam' figures.

I can't add much Peter, other than agree with the previous comments. The red is done very well (which brand do you use?), and as usual, you manage to add character to a rather wooden posed figure. A very nice addition to the cabinet.
