You have more faith in my abilities than I do, I seem to recall back in the 70's & 80's people used to use stiffened tissue paper to make billowing robes and such like. Might all be academic anyway now that toothpaste tubes and wine bottle foil are all plastic, oh well.

Cheers Simon

I do have faith in you, i've seen your work . I have wine bottles that still have some kind of foil, but never like Lead foil.

Back on the Bench after several weeks away.
While i am working on the Trumpeter, i am adding a little conversion.
This is a French guard office which i am getting rid of the head and modifying some areas of the uniform.
I decided to portray Chevalier Jean-Louis Bernard de Frézals de Bourfaud.
He was a Brigadier during the reign of Louis XV and died in 1789.
I added a head and built the wig, got rid of most of the right arm and added wire and putty in order to change the position.
That arm will hold a cane while the left hand will hold a hat saluting a female courtier.

I 've made more progress on the lace, all seams have been taken care of, added the front.
I am includimg 2 pictures of an Historically reproduction for reference, these are for a senior officer's uniform, however, note the broad lace on the Chevalier's portrait.
If you compare tthe portrait to the pictures above mentioned you will notice the lace at the front top to bottom of the coat the lace have some space in between, the one on the chevalier look one right next to eachother and may have to do he was a high rank , in fact he was a Brigadier general of the King's Lifeguards, and that is what i try to achieve here.

Thanks Kev,
Making this sort of elaborate lace is a challenge, hopefully i will look right .
Cheer !

Some sort of quantum engineering going into that lace, there shouldn't be enough room but you nailed it.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Simon,
I was skeptical on starting the front of the coat lace, last night i did not think much and got right on it, sometimes thinking too much about the outcome makes things harder.
I hope it looks right when done.
Best regards.

There is a lot of truth in that, just crack on and I'm sure it will all be good in the end.

Cheers Simon

Well, not a good day today,
Figure was cleaned up and ready.
I primed the figure with a light coat, then after dry i decided to add another coat but went heavy , and i jhad a heater next to it which ot dry out to a heavy layer on the figure.
It was imppsible to clean up without damage.
So, with a great pain and resignation i took the head, right arm and used acetone to remove the paint and hel to remove some areas of green stuff and putty..

Ah mate sorry to hear that, why do the biggest cockups happen on the most complicated figure around. Best of luck remaking him.

Cheers Simon

I wasn't going to let this mishap ruin my Friday and here is Chevalier 2.0.
I've spend some time reworking the front of the coat ( no lace yet) and new wig which i like it better than the previous one.

I wish that someone would come up with a product to add lace as you are doing. It would need to be very flexible to sit tight on the fabric with all the creases. I have tried electrical tape with limited success. I wonder how the professional sculptors do it when creating the master? Painting on the lace alone just doesn’t cut it in my opinion.

Hey Jay,
Believe, I pray tha day when someone can come up with something for the lace really soon.
I admire how sculptors make lace on their master figures, it takes a lot of patience and focus on details.
Regards.
