I know we all know the Hobby paints, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a good brand that is not the main stream paints like GW or reaper. I only ask because I would like to work on mycolourtheory, as well as mixes so would like to buy the main 5 black, white, blue, yellow and red. When you look at the colors that are on sale for mini painting thereisno real True primary colors that are nottinitedwith other colors.andtrying to find a saturated mid tone primary color ishard butthere are other brands for other things and wondering if people use them and what they would recomend?

can only think of 2 golden or liquidtex the later comes in both soft and hard body as well as the basics the basics is there student range . get the soft body if you want to airbrush also found out to use there mediums i found they just work better . hope this helps a little.

Thank you I will add these to the list and I have been trying winsorandnewtongaleria at themo seems good but needs more testing.

Most paint manufacturers do at least one range of fine art paints and quite often 2 (student and artist). Check out Vallejo, Winsor & Newton, Dayler Rowney, Holbein, Jo Sonja to name but a few.

If you go on to an art shop website (e.g. Dick Blick or Jacksons) and look in the acrylic section you will be spoiled for choice :)

Had a look at those true earth paints they seem to offer a lot with there paints in the way they act like oil and acrylic not sure if it will stand up to it tho.

Winsor & Newton, Jo Sonja and Mont Marte are best brands. You can buy color of these brands online very easily.

Hello and welcome to Planetfigure. I can recommend the Arte Deco of Vallejo http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/arte-deco/family/7
But I do not know if you can find easily in model hobby stores as are artists. And so you can try some basic colors from Vallejo Model Color range as they are also flat enough for miniatures:

Flat Yellow 953
Flat Red 958 or Magenta 945
Flat Blue 962
Flat Green 968
Black 950
White 951

You can have a very good results for making your colors.

Stelios

Not to grab hold of this thread but a question for steins . Are those all the basic colors you need from av to mix or to make other c colors from?

Are the basic colours to make all the colours. With the colour theory, with basic yellow, red and blue you can obtain all the existing colours, except white and black (in theory white is the add of all the colours, and black de absence of colours) The rest of AV colours aren't basic. Are a mix of basic colours that can be done by you.
