Working on this today- I did more on Sid; his arms, his belt, the padlock chain around his neck. Also I scratched a Les Paul guitar and started on my Steve Jones figure...

Thanks Ralph! I started on the Drummer Paul Cook today too- it probably seems like a rush, but I like to get as quickly as possible to a point where I see a coherent overall scene emerging, even if that means the fine detailing and finishing is left till later. I always look to the 'end point' and I want to get a glimpse quick, even if the quality suffers...

Thanks Gary- you won't realise it, but I had a chat with you at Figure World last year, where I asked you a few questions about your own figure sculpting efforts- rather more advanced than my own! Thanks for chipping in!

Chris, of course Johnnie and Sid have a bit of 'firm hold' greenstuff mixed into the magicsculp as they had the spikiest hairdos. I basically mussed the putty around with a clay shaper and then a scalpel.

These are coming together well. When painted will we be seeing copious of spit on them?:).
Ralph.

Spit- yes - y(UK)! there's a modelling challenge Ralph. Maybe some scratches/ cuts on Sids torso, who was a notorious self harmer!
I actually did a bit more to finish for the day- a couple of mikes and a plasticard base- 11x11cm.
I started this, as usual, quite impulsively, with no planning. Only now is it dawning on me what is involved in doing the band set up. I've been studying this stuff on the internet-like I'm trying to set up my own band! I've got to detail all the drums, and do 3 cymbals, all on complicated looking stands. By keeping the base compact, I can avoid doing a lot of stuff like guitar amps, speakers mixers etc, still its gonna pretty busy...

Looks good. I like what you've done.
For the drums, the only thing missing is the snare drum. Very shallow, metal shell with the spring (snare) across the bottom. It would sit right between Paul's knees. I could be wrong with this particular drummer, everyone has their own set up but a snare is pretty much the drum that a kit is built around.

Other than that, very cool. I also like musician sculpts, my only two scratch sculpts were both musicians.

I look forward to seeing some colour on these guys

Thanks for those thoughts Colin, I've been looking hard for a snare drum in the photos and videos I've looked at and I can't see one. That doesn't mean I'm right though. Paul went on drumming for the rest of his life, so the pictures are many and various.
As I understand it, Paul had only been drumming a couple of years when the Sex Pistols got together ( he was 20) and other than Steve Jones they were learning how to play as they went along ( bit like me with my sculpting and scratch building) so that might explain a quite basic set up?

You could be right. Like I said, every drummer has his own particular set-up. I just never saw a kit without a snare... but just because I haven't seen it, don't mean it ain't so.
The bass player from Jesus and Mary Chain only strung his bass with two strings... he said, "I only use two so why the F#*k should I waste money on the other two?"

Musicians are weird... I should know :wtf:

This is moving along very nicely. The overall look will be more important than the details so I wouldn't worry too much about detailing the drums etc etc. Your paint style will more than compensate.
