Those Russians are pretty dang good thats for sure. I think its done in assembly line form though so one person specialize in painting a certain area or pattern then hands it off to the next guy. Im not 100% sure but someone may be able to tell us more about it.
 
Certainly is a very well painted pattern, wish I could paint half as good patterns myself. However I dont think the style of the face matches the style of the pattern? Or am I just being cranky?

I remember some letters to HM discussing this phenomena, that the figures are being painted by a whole team?

You are so right about this.
In our club we have a lady who can paint this. But see never told us how see do it. The only answer is, look at the painting, and brake it down in simple lines and motives.

Also true, uruk-hai - whilst the intricacy of the clothing is astonishing the face is only of workmanlike quality paintwork.
