Paulo,

No easy answer here. It's just down to a steady hand, properly thinned paint and lots of planning. I find that acrylics work best for this type of detail painting. Bear in mind that if the sculptor has not included seam lines for the pants, that they would have been seamed most likely in the back. Use this seam line as a reference to lay in your pattern with a neutral color, then go back with your finish colors. Each check should also be shaded and highlighted individually. I recommend studying as much reference material as you can. Marion Epensberger recently painted a checked pattern on a figure in a vignette, whose name escapes me right now, that was brilliantly done. Try practicing the pattern on a scrap figure an see how you like the results. Also, it would be a good idea to lay off the coffee just before painting :)

Good Luck,

Matt

Hi Paulo. I don't know if you buy Euromodelismo Figures, but in numbers 25 and 26, there are two articles about your question. And in Figure International, there is another one article explaining how to paint that.
If you want information, tell me it and I will be able to help you by message personal.

Un saludo

Jaime

I would like to thank for the tips.

Jaime,

I'm keeping with the english language (instead of portuguese or spanish) so that anyone reading this can understand.

I've Euromodelismo Figures 25/6 where the articles you mention talk about the Celts, but doesn't explain how paint those beautiful checkered patterns.

Althouhgt there is an article (in EuroM 37 pag 3-4) talking about the subject but I don't grab the technique.

Perhaps the other article can help. Unfortunately I don't have Figure International (too many magazines for the small space I have). If you do have it, can you send the article to me? I would be in your debt.

My home mail is: [email protected]

Muchas gracias,
Paulo
