I've been concentrating on the flag at this stage, trying to give it a grubby appearance.
As i mentioned, I was going to try something new.
After blocking the colours out in acrylics, I gave the flag a wash in Van Dyjck brown. (oils)
to give the grubby effect, after I'd left this to dry, I picked out a few highlights with oils,
hoping this would add a little vibrancy to the colours.

Yes! That's the ticket. One thing, it might be the lighting when you take the picture, but his eyes brows wash out. Or I'm talking out of the side of my @r$e and you are still working on the face.
Wife went gaga over it as our national holiday is 3 days away. Loves the worn look of the flag.

The eye brows are there, and you're right the lighting has washed them out. The face is finished, did the best I could with it.
Glad you like the flag.

Highlight the stars. :(. With my shaky hands, I'd more than likely end up wrecking it.
I'm having to get used to my limits now, and just paint to the best of my abilities.

Nothing wrong with your ability.......it was seeing something with legs that made me suggest it !

I was hoping to make a little more progress this morning, when disaster struck.
While carefully removing the cords and tassle from the sprue with clippers, it simply disintegrated into little pieces,
apart from the tassles. The cords look to be full of air bubbles.
So I'm going to put it aside for a while and work on something else.
