Since we have had several discussions on the 70th Anniversary of D day. I started to wonder if there are any more Evacuees from the London Blitz still around and on here?

I was sent to Rochdale, Lancashire and stayed with two Spinsters for 9 months prior to the end of the war.

Cheers
John

Not sure what the year was but my parents were evacuated from Glasgow during the bombings (Clydeside shipyards, railroards, etc).

My gran worked in a munitions factory and Dad would stay with his aunt and cousins when she was on night shift. One night, Dad stayed home as gran was ill and did not go to work. Next morning, Dad headed out to meet his cousins for school. Unfortunately, their house had been hit during the night and all had perished. He was sent off to Ireland for a few months after that.

No worries, John. My Da was a soft spoken but tough Glasgow kid. On a lighter note....my Mum being a couple of years younger than my dad, did not quite grasp the enormity of the time and and thought she was watching the best fireworks display she had ever seen:rolleyes:
