Hanging in my living room. Love this print, Wollen is the best!

Ah Scott, I may have chosen my favourite a little too soon.
This is a great painting.

Del,
Dilemma!! I am up to fifteen favourites at the moment???
Cheers Guys

This is a great thread Del,
I have so many military paintings that I like, my favourite changes every day. Following an evening polishing off copious amounts of 14 year old Rich Oak Glenfiddich I am in a Highland mood this morning, so today its ‘Home’ Return from the Crimea.
This painting is by Scottish artist Sir Joseph Noel Patton. I particularly like the fine detail and lighting.
Cheers,
Keith

On a quick note, anyone know where any of these can be bought as prints? That Paton looks great (better than his faerie stuff anyway....)

I find Cranston way too expensive. I was after any Art gallery shops or Regimental sites that sell them and benefit the regiment etc.

So many to choose from but this is the first one that comes to mind and has been a favorite since childhood. 'The Skirmish Line" by Charles Schreyvogel painted in 1903 I believe.

This is one of my favourities. The Charge of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade at The Nek, 7 August 1915 by official Australian war artist George Lambert.
It shows the futile Australian mounted infantry charge by members of the Lighthorse attacking Turkish positions at The Nek on Gallipoli.

It's probably not the best war painting ever, but it captures the moment brilliantly.

Menin_Gate_at_midnight_(Will_Longstaff).jpg

This painting called The Menin Gate at Midnight by Will Longstaff was so popular in Australia after WW1 that it was estimated one in every four homes had a copy of it on the walls. The image of thousands of ghostly shapes marching past the famous Gates of Ypres on the way to the battlefield must have haunted the grieving families back home. Once again, not necessarily a great piece of art, but it clearly captured the mood and spirit of the times.

I didn't know this painting till now. I find it has so much emotion ..... I can not imagine what the people who live the WW1 feel when they saw it. It is in my opnion great art. Thanks for allow me to discover that.

Tell you what though Tony it REALLY conveys a real sense of just how hard that terrain was to cross. If you just glance at it it's actually quite a beautifull landscape painting and then you see the devestation almost hidden in it. I like it a lot.
