So that's what Jackson ******* looks like.

BTW - I am taking great offence to Ron's beautiful ladies who appear on a banner on this page (at least as my machine sees it) with the alluring caption "We don't want young men, we want you!" How can they tell from their side of the screen that I am an old fart? See screen shot below.

This is a great thread Del,
I have so many military paintings that I like, my favourite changes every day. Following an evening polishing off copious amounts of 14 year old Rich Oak Glenfiddich I am in a Highland mood this morning, so today its ‘Home’ Return from the Crimea.
This painting is by Scottish artist Sir Joseph Noel Patton. I particularly like the fine detail and lighting.
Cheers,
Keith

Mmmmm rumbled!..... now in my best John Wayne voice - "Hey Pilgrim"........ welcome aboard.(y)

There is some great stuff shown on here, just wait until the all the national paintings are catalogued. Anyway I've been sitting looking over this post and just realised I have these two pictures on my living room wall. The Senior Service;

HMS Tricomalee and HMS Warrior. (Well worth reading up on)

and if you did not know, I'm very proud to say that both of these magnificent vessels were fully restored here in British West Hartlepool - by us Monkey Hanger's. Just goes to show you what a chimp can do if you give him the right tools

Thanks everybody for appreciate a French painters.
The paint was the defense of Rorkes Drift, strange for a French to paint British scene, but do not forget that in this time there's no photos as for all the people, and paints or the "dioramas" were the only way for a lot of people to have an idea of the event.
The Zulu war was particularly popular in France at this time. Do not forget that the most famous dead in this war, was a French, the son of Napoleon III.
For the painting "last cartridge", yes Ghalmit, it's a last stand scene.
Bazeille as i said is like Camerone for the French Colonial Troops, the "Chasseur" on the right is waiting for the end. De Neuville put him here constrating with the determination of the Colonials on the left. Showing (choosing an Elite line Soldier) also how desperate was the situation;
Also the painter choose an elite line soldier because lines troops were present in Bazeille.
Last thing, if you look, there's only one French soldier shooting.
An to finish another painting from A.De Neuville :
