EXCELLENT job Joe!!! (y) The pic's look great! You handle acrylics VERY well.

Derek Hansen designed some awesome Franco-Prussian figures. I just never understood why he never produced a typical pickelhaub wearing Prussian infantryman to go w/ them. :(

I'll have to keep my eye out for that kit. Whatta classic! :)

If anyone is interested in the Franco Prussian War I suggest they get hold of Champs D'Honeur which is a French movie made in the late eighties on the war with some very nice battle scenes. I am surprised there have not been more movies since the war had so much intrigue and drama. I have seen the movie for sale on E-bay every once in awhile.
Bob,

Man... I havn't seen that in years! Guess I'll have to go out and rent it again.

I have a Tradition magazine that has some behind the scene pic's. As w/ all war movies though...soooo much more potential

Jason,

Thanks for the kind words. I am still trying to get the full hand with these acrylics but hopefully one day. :) I too like the others and I need to pick them up myself. I did the Uhlan many years ago and will try to get a few pictures and post but I would love to get him again and repaint.

Joe, I haven't painted anything in well over a year, I've got a couple of weeks off over christmas and I'm really feeling the urge to paint again thanks to all of the great work that has been posted here.
So, hopefully soon to answer your question

Guys, I have the movie and it's a nice film given the subect matter and small budget they no doubt had to work with. The Derek Hansen pieces are nice not mention inspirational.

Nice avatar Jason.~Gary

Gary,

I agree w/ a "nice" film for the subject matter. However, this is a classic case of the right stuff in the WRONG hands. Example being 'Gods and Generals'.I know this was no G&G but even w/ a million dollar or more budget, G&G STILL bombed at the box office. There are docu-films out there that will never see the light of the silver screen, and have pennies for a budget but are better acted, wardrobed, pyrotechnics, choreographed battle scenes and much more entertaining.
I will see Champs D'Honeur again for "***** and giggles".
Sorry everyone w/ my little tyrate. This subject belongs on another forum.

I know the Germans in the 1930's made several movies of the FP War as propoganda. I believe they are all in Black and White and I have seen some out takes in another documentary. I would love to see them in their original form despite the political motivation behind them.

Great job Joe.

As usual, great overall quality. I agree with Richard, you have a knack at bringing out details and making things look realistic and worn.

What a superb paint job on an excellent figure. May I suggest to any compnaies dropping in that the Franco Prussian war could be the next big thing figure wise. Please!!!!!! (y)

Joe, great work, I really love the job you did here. I continually float between oils and acrylics. Can you tell me your thoughts on the differances you factored in to make your switch? Thanks..

Larry

Hey Larry,

Thanks. What made switch to the dark side? I had a 2 year lay off from figures, that is I moved, new job and a few family problems so I just was unable to paint. What I did then was go to the shows and just look. I was lucky enough that I used to help Phil Kessling and Ron Souza with the photography and I got some good up close looks at the figures. I saw the acrylics and I liked the way they looked. I know some people do not like the style but I liked what I was seeing and decided to give it a try. Plus I hate the idea of painting a figure 3 times, primer, undercoat and then oils! What I strive to do though in my painting is to make it look like the oil transition and not what I call the NIKE swish. You see a few acrylic painters and there paint job is great until you get in close or blow it up. I wanted the best of the oils and the colors of the acrylics. Sorry for such a long ramble! :)

Joe

Not a ramble at all and I understand your views. Someday I will post pics of both figures I have done in oils and acrylics.....still not sure what I like best!

Larry,

I look forward to seeing the pictures. I think you should do whichever you feel the most comfortable. I know there are some great oils and acrylic painters. We have several of both here at PF and I am trying to learn from them both! :)
