Didn't get to post last night, a bottle of red got in the way, that and the rugby.

Another trouser leg and more volume on the mystery figures headdress.

I took into account Valients observation on the neck length but decided I couldn't part the heads from the body without doing a lot of damage. A razor saw would take too much so that was out, as mentioned above the collars are made a little bigger, I think it works and am happy to forward as they are.

Next stage then should be painting and some work on the base after I forage for natural bits to adapt and stick in place.

Cheers Simon

I found that the Hornet heads can have rather long necks so you do need to be a bit careful with them. I think your solution with the collar looks better and saves you having to cut their heads off.

Not sure what the mystery figure is yet.......

Nigel, thanks and yes they do have a lot of neck, kind of worried now about looking in the cabinet in case I have 50 or so giraffe like figures looking back at me. Funnily enough the old metal Hornet heads and yes I still have a few barely had any neck.

Mystery figure = 17th Brunswick Hussar regiment?

Hi, good guess but sorry not a Brunswicker.

I have put in the shape of his jacket and a few creases, just waiting for it to cures I can add a sharper edge along the bottom. May be this will help, but probably not as he's still very generic.

Was going to do some work on the base, colouring the long grass for which I would use very dilute Sap Green oils. Unfortunately I had a tidy up a while ago and cannot find my oils!

Cheers Simon

I rushed through the undercoating phase with grey primer and Vallejo bone white, all today so I could start painting. Just done the faces, though as usual my lighting is too harsh and has bleached the colour somewhat, I gave up trying to be an adequate photographer a long while ago.

Hopefully get some more done tomorrow but no guarantee on that.

Cheers Simon

These are shaping up nicely;)

Cheers Steve I'm looking forward to painting them, I'm more used to red jackets and blue trousers though.

More excellent progress. The collar tweaks really help.

Is the mystery figure a French hussar from 1870-71?

Cheers Nigel, the collars were the easy way out, but I realised today the red tabs on the Grenadiers collar is going to look a little odd, oh well.

Alas no he is neither a hussar nor French, according to the art work I'm working from he's actually from 40 years later.

Cheers Simon

Great start on those two.

Cheers Rob, I added a bit more colour to their faces this morning after watching half a dozen tutorials on glazing, worked out what I was doing wrong. So hopefully I'll paint these two a bit better.

Okay; how about William of Luxembourg?

Nah but closer geographically and not a recognisable person. Going to try and get some modelling done tonight so there should be an update picci soon.

Cheers Simon

like I can see you have a lot to do for the moment ,sculpting, painting
but as long you enjoy it,that is the most important thing, and nice figures

Yes red wine and keyboards aren't a good mix. Thanks for the comments and this particular figure isn't in any of the Osprey books I own. The inspiration came from an illustration found on Pintrest and some old colourised pictures found not too far from here.

No bench time last night, way too tired after my Granddaughter. So it'll be this morning after what ever my wife decides needs doing first.

Cheers Simon

Need to thank both Rob and NigelR for their guidance with regards to painting in acrylics.

I watched a whole bunch of you tube video on glazing, so obviously today when I started painting I was suddenly brilliant. Yeah then reality bit me, I think I am starting to understands acrylics a bit better and I know I need loads more practice. So having already done the faces I'm going to live with them as I attempt to get to grips with glazing on the uniforms.

I made the trousers of both darker red than I did on my Legionnaire as the trousers are meant to be crimson. I used various colours until I built upsome saturation then most stuck to Scale Color Deep Red for the shade with added amounts of Vallejo model Colour Luftwaffe Cam Green. I did the first highlights in a mix of Vallejo Game Colour Scarlet Red with increasing amounts of Vallejo Model Colour Amaranth Red. Once dry they each recieved a few thin washes of the scarlet.

The jackets were built up initially with Scalecolor Abyssal Blue, the shade was built up with Army Painter Matt Black and the highlights were added with Vallejo Model Colour Dark Prussian Blue. The jackets need a lot more work to bring in lighter highlights and work more Prussian Blue into the black.

So here we are.

I also had a play with my side project and added the fur compact or Busby and marked up where I need to start building up dolman ornamentation.

The compact is a mix of Duro and Magicsculpt as is the trim round the bottom and front opening of the dolman. The trousers now have double lace stripes down to the leather work. His collar has been added with a laced rounded opening.

So far he's not French, German or a Luxembourger, nor is he a hussar despite the dolman and colpack.
