Hi everyone
Verbal up date ......Working on the Kepi he wears and looking at the references I have added a line of lace around the inside top of the Kepi using very very thing putty
The next question was ..is the colour black or a very dark blue ? ......off went the question to Piere with this reply
"Hello Kevin,
Ah, that elusive blue/black so favored in continental officers' parade uniforms!
To the eye it is black, but not a dead flat black which tends to look greyish, but an extremely dark blue. In oils I mix it by adding ivory black and a speck of burnt umber to indigo , never never use straight black.
In the French army, this colour was what distinguished an officer's dress from all the blues of the common soldiers' uniform, a bit difficult to capture well in paint.
In the Belgian army it is extensively used in the parade dress of the Royal Military Academy and in army officers' mess dress."
He also sent several videos of officers at the Belgium Academy ( easier than sending his actual uniform ! )
Once again THANKS PIERRE
So based on this I went for a midnight blue with a touch of umber and black .....this is now looking good
All gold embroidery on the Kepi top and sides at basecoated with a dark brown and the red top is completed
Will next basecoat the flesh and hair/ beard and complete the eyes
Stay tuned
Happy benchtime
