Del,
This piece was, /is, one of my favourites! for character, and feel!... and you have done an excellent rendition of it! .. Nothing over fancy or mythical. but subtle and realistic.. just as it should be!. I do like this.(y)

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark. That's exactly what I go for. I like a more 'campaign' look on my figures.

Derek
Biting the B ullet!:) dont think so mate!!, looking forward to seeing the Flat Del, will see at the Bar
Area, seems to be the best meet up place!!

Hi Del,
I have said this before and I will say it again....the only thing wrong with your work is you don't post enough of it.;) That is a class piece of painting and basing. Nice move putting the old along side the new, just shows what a talent you have developed into. I look at my first piece in the cabinet from time to time as it's easy to forget were you started from.
cheers
Richie

Hello Derek, That sure is a great looking painted face under all that armor. You really achieved his menacing look, with the way you have painted the eyes. The fleshtones are excellent, as is the armor. The nameplate is very original, and is a nice touch, complimenting your piece. Great workmanship Derek, congrats, I really like it. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)

Very nice work Del. That is really a big jump from the Indian. Impressed(y)

Alex.

Thanks Alex. Geronimo was painted years ago. I then had a fairly long gap when I concentrated on coaching Rugby. Came back seriously about 5 years ago and developed the technique of mercenary plagerism :)

Much appreciated Ritchie. I've still got most of my early stuff and am as pleased to look at it as anything I've done recently. In fact I hardly keep anything I do now.

Thanks Rick. I got a good flesh basecoat down and then went wet on dry using varying shades of Madder Brown and finally Raw Umber.

Gorgeous piece Del. A lovely balance to the colours. Metals and shield are top notch, but it's the face that does it for me. Being able to see just how far you have come is a great bonus.

Regards

Ron

Thanks Ron, lots of moulding on the metals so it really lends itself to 'messing' about with some washes.

A great pit of painting Del, and a huge step up from your previous bust. It a credit to you that you acknowledge your modelling mentors and those you have helped you take such huge steps in such a short period of time. Clearly you've listened and learned from them and the improvement in your painting and the use of washes and other techniques to add those finishing effects, has really lifted the quality of your modelling. Well done mate. The face and the shield are particularly well done.

Cheers bud, much appreciated. You're right B an D are an inspiration, mind you I see it as payback for my role as carer/therapist keeping their minds from seizing up.;)
I'll bring down some sheets of parchment paper for you to have a go at some plates.

I'll look forward to that del,thanks :)

Amazing brush work Del.
There is nothing I can add, only echo the scribbling's above.
Strange that your previous bust looks so p**t off at not being painted to this incredible level.
A truely great piece Mate .
Cheers,
Keith

Derek, this is beautiful!
You got the balance spot on. Subtle but full of life, nice leathers and weathering, flesh etc. Not much to add to whats been said. Only thing I can think photography wise that would bring it out better would be a darker background, like Popovichenko's works, that would create cool contrast with silver armour.

Whats next on the bench?
