As my last couple of Historex based projects seemed to include a great deal of conversion/animation/scratch building etc., I was curious to see how I might get on making a figure from scratch.

Anyway, it might be folly, it might all crash and burn but I’ve now got the figure far enough along - without too much struggle - to make me cautiously optimistic that I can bring it to some sort of conclusion.

He’s a Foot Artillery gunner from around 1810 based on a figure in the Rousselot plate (can’t remember the number). All the arms and equipment will be Historex but everything else is scratchbuilt over a wire armature. It’s been a learning curve but very rewarding and great fun (so far).

This is coming along a treat Paul, love the breeches and he creases. Did you make any improvements to the bearskin to make it fit better?

Cheers Simon

The Historex bearskin is blu-tacked on at the moment just to give a sense of the finished figure. I’m intending to scratch build the bearskin once I work my way up there. :)

A quick update on the Foot Artillery Gunner who’s now starting to look something like. The next job is to shape and texture the bearskin as well cut channels for the cords etc. I have to say, I’m rather pleased with him so far.

wow, Paul!
there's not much Historex in evidence any more, is there :ROFLMAO: ?
Doh! just re-read the beginning of the thread....

There’s the peak of his bearskin and all the plastic solution I’ll be using later on will be made exclusively from Historex sprue. :) And his sword and cartridge pouch will be Historex and the haversack/rolled cloak is Nemrod (which still counts :) ).

Superb work Paul, quite simply I couldn't fault this if I tried really really hard, it is a cracking piece of work and a really testament to your skill and passion.

Cheers Simon

That’s really kind of you Simon - thank you. It’s a build I’ve *really* enjoyed and it’s a bit of a surprise that it’s gone so well - so far. I’ll have to be careful not to go too far down the scratchbuild rabbit hole or I’ll get booted from the Small Subjects FB page and I’d miss chewing the fat with the gents on there. :)
