Is it so hard to conceive that for some people (in fact the VAST majority), the purpose of this hobby is NOT to judge and be judged.

All they want is to create something which would look good on their cupboard. It's as simple as that.

My point is: this forum deals with the average isolated modeller whose principal interest is to link with other modellers and share his passion and exchange techniques. Any technique. And eye decals are just a (small) part of it. Some might like it, some don't. So it goes.

Now if there are some people who's, for one reason or another, need to prove that they're into something more rigorous and 'artistic', I'd say why not? There are other forums where they can discuss 'art', 'rules and regulations' ad finitum. But why pick this particular place to do it?

I'd say: Live and let live.

Quang,

I totally agreed with you, eye decals are too small a part. I wish Archer will come up with bigger decals for the whole face, hopefully they can develope a whole line with European, Asian, Afraican facial decals Then for average layman and ignorant mortals like me can do a figure without requiring any artistic skill ( which I barely have )

I guess because it is called "PlanetFigure" and does offer something for everyone from the "average isolated modeller" to the GrandMaster. If it were only for the average isolated modeller than it should only be open to that group. I can't imagine anyone here or otherwise who wouldn't want to improve their style even if only to show it to their relatives.

I think it boils down to differences in priorities, desires and opinions. So "live and let live" applies in either direction. Something to think about, no? (y)

Well I was gonna post a big I am fed up with this stuff post, the guy posts his figures, hes proud of em same as I am of mine, so I take my hat off to him. But I realise I can't be bothered because when it comes down to it some of you guys love doing the have a dig bit so whats the point.

Me I am gonna go back to desk and continue painting how I like doing it, its just not worth the hassle of reading these posts, cos when hes gone who will be next?

So he used decals for his eyes on this figure, who really gives a monkeys. Looks good does the job, all I can say is get a life. I have heard all this crap before about cheating, cheating why the bloddy hell is it cheating, they are produced he bought em he used em, not like he got Bill Horan to paint em for him. He don't hide the fact, hes open and honest.

just sticks in my beak.

Expecting his first warning, I knew I couldn't sit on my hands forever.

Hi ,what i am about to write is almost word for word something i wrote and deleted last week when i read that " This is not a mere hobby its a art form"
wise up gents we are MODEL FIGURE makers/painters its a bloody hobby to 99%
of us and the remaining 1% dont want you as good as they are because you wont buy their products.
as far as belonging to a club go's i was lucky enough to belong to STAN CATCHPOLS (Alias Bryan Fosten) club back in the 70s and though a military illustrator he never thought of himself as a artist on his hobby side of modelling.
also whilst certain members insist that there techniques/finish is the only right way they will only drive away the also rans like me who are happy with there lot.
in finishing i have pushed both putty and brush for over 35 years,do not own a single figure(other than flats) of my own making/painting and when given to other collectors have never had anyone say, No Thanks.
Its a Hobby, lets have less of the my ways the only way/
ps I own enough Books on yhe Subjct

That need a lot of stress for my old brain to link all the pixels together to recreate the proper image said:
Vince, you should share with the other members your outstanding illustrations done via computer to put your statement in context :) For those of you who have not been fortunate enough to see what really terrific computer artwork Vince produces it would behoove you to cajole him into sharing. As an illustrator myself having worked with traditional illustration board AND computer graphics programs of all types, Vince is being very humble. Plus he is a damn good sculptor and all around nice person to boot. You and Quang and others here are of the Rennaisance-man ilk and while it may be debated what art is or isn't, multi-talented/faceted people can be appreciated on that basis alone.

Besides you love the stress, right?

Vince,
your modesty knows no bounds.
You are just a great sculpter and a humble human being,I tip my hat to you.

If painting figures is an art form, than it ought not to be judged but enjoyed and inspired by it. Personally I don't think painting figures makes anyone an artist, just a modeler.

This would be a boring hobby if all figure painters and sculpters used the same technique.

As the french with say "VIVE LA DIFFERANCE",I hope I spelled that right.

Roc.
