This figure is in my wish list, and your version is awesome... this banner is fantastic!! Congratulations

It's been a while but I've finally gotten back to this figure. I'm getting close to finishing the knight, though I haven't touched the horse. I know what I'd like to do with it, I'm just not sure how... so I've been stalling. In the meantime I'm almost ready to add the rest of the cape. The cape is a great canvas for freehand and I've seen some really nice examples, so I'm going to try to come up with something. I'm also finishing up the banner. I redid the cross pattern and I'm much happier with it. As you can see only one side is done, still plenty to do.

Step by step the rider at least is getting closer to the end. I finished up the details around his belt and added the cape. He'll have a shield slung over his shoulder, so that's why there's that dark section on there. It's a big cape with plenty of white space, so I'd like to add some sort of design around the border. I started something but decided I didn't like how it looked. So now it's back to the drawing board to come up with something better.

Well, it's been a while since I've worked on this figure but I finally got it back on my painting table. My big issue was how to paint the horse. With all the white on the rider I knew I wanted to do a black horse. Unfortunately black is a color that has given me all kinds of trouble. So I put this figure on hold for a while.

I wanted to do a blue-black for the horse, especially after seeing the one on the cover of Scale Model Handbook Vol 2 (a beautifully done blue-black on Pegaso's Roaming Knight). I came up with a mix of black, teal, and skin tone that I used fairly successfully on another figure so I thought I'd give it a try here. I've only finished a small section so I could test it out and see how everything would look together. Blending is still a nightmare, but I'm happy with the end result. Now I just have to slowly work my way through the rest of the horse.

Dear Bailey, as you rightly point out, black horses can be problematic. I feel the direction you're going in - to do it dark - is the correct one as it offers balance.

I've tried this in the past. let me suggest a thin coat of black oils, then when that is almost dry add the highlights. Find a bluey/purpely/light grey-ish mix you're happy with, then apply to the highlight points sparingly. Practice on a spare 54mm horse like an old Airfix or Historex one you might have lying about in a drawer. See what comes out.

So far though, this is a top job.

It looks very beautifull Bailey!!!
I think that a little more highlights and it's on the spot.
The suggestion of Blind Pew is a good one. Not that I use oils, but I've seen Ernesto painting a horse like that. Look at his profile for his SBS of the 75mm Pegaso Roaming Knight! I will help for sure!
The figure is also very very good.

Regards
Pedro
