I have slowed down a little on my Cuirassier 'Heavy Metal' thread, work is still going on but sliw fiddly bits so not much to post about.

So I thought I'd show you what I'm doing with another foot figure.

This fella is going to be a Sapper of the French Foreign Legion between the wars.

The title "Le Boudin" is the anthem of the Legion, also one of the many marching songs they have. The Boudin is a blood sausage or black pudding to give it a more well known name. It is also the nick name given to the rolled blanket carried atop the back pack when on campaign. That said this fella won't be carrying the marching gear, just singing his heart out.

My build is based on this picture I found on the world's biggest reference book, Pintrest.

I have used another pair of puttee'd lower legs that Stefan sent me attached to a stripped down Historex body. I have added one of the Historex resin heads, I wasn't planning on having him singing but seeing this head plans quickly slipped sideways!

Progress so far;

Thanks for looking.

Looking good so far and a subject very dear to my heart. He will certainly look the business.

Malkie
I have known a few who decided to serve France in the Legion, the two British lads both deserted which has left both very low in my esteem.

There is certainly a charm and a touch of romance in Legion subjects, well this is my third one recently!

Prolific AND versatile Simon.Totally following this as all the previous ones (just don't give up on the Heavy Metal trio)

Oda.

Very nice idea. The Legion is a fascinating subject, replete with dubious actions.
And you can't beat a bit of boudin.
Cheers David, all militaries are guilty of dubious actions but that's the nature of warfare, it isn't a very civilised undertaking but as a species we are rather good at it!

Cheers Aris, I saw the illustration and immediately wanted to do it. I'm still working on the trumpeter from Heavy Metal, just lots of fiddly bits and waiting for putty to cure, I will post soon.

There's a handy Osprey book on the legion, covering WW1 to WW2.
I have a book that covers most uniforms up to about mid 20 C. but not the particular book you mean. I often find though that too many references only lead to confusion and I'm easily confused these days!
