Ron, the overpaint is simply stains of oils used for the face. I did not care about cleaning surrounding areas, knowing that the fur and the colback would be painted in black.
Looks great so far. I agree with Colin, I've always found trying to paint around the sabretache/scabbard/sword belt combo to be more frustrating than anything and usually ends up with one or more straps being broken or creased badly. I wish I could make it work the way you have as I hate gluing over painted areas.
Anyway, I do quite like the yellow you've developed for the overalls... very nice, subtle shading and highlighting.
Ahhh... on second look I can see the shading on the white. I'm getting blind in my old age It'll show better when some of the surrounding colours are blocked in.
Scabbard and sabretache are glued together and the former is glued to the leg as well.
This is quite solid and will be - if I may say so - easy to paint so assembled.
Still a lot more to do on the horse with lights, shadows and reflections. Plus eyes, mane, tail, hooves, etc.
