Its never easy posting stuff for the first time and being new to the hobby,i think its a good job considering as you say its the first time, you just need to remember, weve all been in the same position as you my friend,we all have to start somehere, take the critic on board, get yourself the book I told you about and practice, practise and practice, good luck in everything you do

Hi Stephen

Well done on posting this ...and it's a bust as well ...lol ( looks like a LB bust which I believe CGS took over )

I am not an oily bloke but if I may the paint looks too thick but those more experienced in oils will I am
sure suggest .

On the badge ..I base mine in black then do the shaping carefully then put a dark wash to bring out the details

PS picture turned

Thanks was trying for the worn slightly wounded look and please let me know how I can turn the picture the right way !!

Thin thin layers...apply with a round pretty much middle of area you are working..then use a flat to smooth out and blend...good start..keep it going...I think the key is to stick at it, things will come for you and you will find a personal groove that’s fun and effective...am pleased most of all that you sought some advice, then made the effort to apply and learn for yourself...

Can someone please tell me how to have the figure the right way up ............
Is that better re the Figure

If my first attempt looked like that, I'd have been really happy. I can't tell you how many times I've stripped down to restart. Keep it up, and keep having fun!

You paint is to thick.
With oils it must be thin, thinner, thinst :)
First of all: Let the oil out of the paint....therefore put a blob of paint on a piece of card. ( i use old index cards).
Then: bring to paint over to your palet. I use a white tile.
With a very, very little amount of white spirit you make the paint some more liquid then the pasta on your card.
Then paint, but very thin. I use a makeup brush for taking off the paint that is to much. (when you have stripes your paint is to thick).
Then I let it dry in a drybox and start the next day with highlight and shading.
You can also let it dry on the air, and start hightight and shading wet in wet. It's easyer, but you have the chance that the first layer will come of.

BTW: you must have primed the figure and a underpaint from enamel or acrylic.

Marc that is really good information, I will try that as I was just painting more or less straight from the tube ..
Yes I did prime it and based coated with acrylic..
