This is another beauty from TFB miniatures in 75mm.
I'm in the preparation process at the moment, I've removed a few casting marks, nothing major.
Cemented the legs to torso and used a little filler to hide the join, apart from that I've selected
a nice wooded base from Oakwood Bases.

The next step will be to wash the components in soapy water and then prime.

The colour scheme is going to make this an interesting figure to paint.

After washing all the components in soapy water, and drying them off, I primed the head and upper torso.
I made a start on the hat first, the underside of the brim is Scale 75 Black, with the upper section being painted in Petroleum Grey.
Returning to the black, I painted in a few shadows before applying the first highlight with Brown Grey, and the second with Rainy Grey.
I've tried to make the hat look weathered and reasonably well worn.

The next step was the eyes, these are quite small, so I kept the detail very basic.
For the whites of the eyes, I used a pale fleshy colour, a mid brown for the iris and black for the pupil.
A brown - black for the upper lid.
Vallejo Brown Sand was used for the basecoat of the flesh and chocolate brown for the hair and beard.

Next step detailing the flesh tones.

Lovely face Malc, almost looks like Dickens Artful Dodger all grown up, but probably no more honest. Love how you've dialled back from black to to Rainy Grey, very effective.

Cheers Simon

Just a small update, and my apologies the lighting on the photos isn't great, but will hopefully give you an idea of what I've managed to accomplish.
Using a Vallejo flesh painting set I've added detail to the face and yes, I remembered to paint in the eyebrows. :D
I've keep the contrast reasonable subtle, as I think it suits the character on this particular face, although I am considering pushing one or two highlights.
Apart from that I've painted the collar and marked out the red stripes.
Comparing the stripes with the photo of the jacket and picture I'm working from, they appear wider than they should be, so I'll adjust the size
when I start detailing the jacket.

Hi Malc

Lovely fleshwork , not overdone , nice eyebrows as well

Coming along nicely

Out of interest did a bit of a google and these came up ....including another Regt in top hat so that’s a conversion potential !

The figure is by David Zabrocki , saw it on P & P

Nice update

Looking forward to seeing more

Have FUN @ the bench

Thanks Kev, there's some interesting ideas for conversions there.
I'm basing mine on the Don Troiani picture.
My only wish is that the sculptor had sculpted in the lacing rather than marking it out, that would've made it easier to paint.
With my eyes its not all that easy to see and paint.

Is the David Zabrocki a recent figure, I've not seen him a while, so I wasn't sure if he's still painting or not.

The top picture (Green uniforms) - they are wearing Hardee hats, not top hats.......but you can get there from the kit figure. Toriani's plate is of course the 17th Miss on which the kit is based.
Second row - colorized Augustus Columbus Thompson Captain 16th Georgia Infantry
Third row - 11th Miss Co. G Lamar Rifles which I am converting my figure to; next one is a pre-war militia unit.
Fourth row - Zabrocki's 54mm scratch built from Troiani's print.

Just my personal opinion, but I think the kit's lacing is too thick and too few.

I'm loving these 75mm Civil War figures that we're seeing now and have about 12 in my stash already. My problem is I'm always tweaking or converting them. Slows me down but I'm happy
