Agree that eyes are the most challenging aspect of working in this scale...but you have done a great job.
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.

Catchlights at this scale? Well done you!
I'm happy if the pupil looks roughly right, never mind a bloody catchlight!
That's the conclusion I came to! I think I spend too much time looking at modelling "porn" and tend to set my sights too high.....:)

Faces are looking great! Suggestion would be to use #6 readers for the eyes, it worked for me on the "Battle of the Tartans". Catch in the eye, outstanding, much more than I did, awesome work, Nigel.
Thanks, only one had that catchlight. I use a fancy optivisor all the time but even with that it's a struggle with these ageing eyes.....

Couldn't agree more myself.More than one top class painters suggest in their respective masterclasses that in 1/35 you can just skip the whole thing by painting the entire bulb in a black wash.I've seen it being done and it works so your pupils in 1/35 are a thing to be marvelled at Nigel mate. You should be very proud and I am waiting eagerly to see more of your "in progress" pics.

Oda.

An update - I've done the flesh on all six figures, here's three of them to show what I've been able to achieve. I hate the teeny tiny eyes on 1/35 figures, especially on the ICM heads (like the officer). I really struggled to get the pupils positioned correctly, and only one figure has catchlights. It's just beyond my eyes and ability to do anything other than blobby pupils in this scale. Think I will focus on 54mm and bigger in future!

Overall I'm happy, these are definitely the best I've been able to do so far with acrylics. I picked up some tips from Mike Butler's book, thanks Mike!

I've spent the last few days doing the groundwork but I won't bore you with that, it's just a mound of grass........ Hopefully it will look good with the figures on it.

Starting the uniform painting today.
Really neat to see progress Nigel.
Great start on faces, each have an individual look.
Pleasing to hear my book was of value.
Keep ‘em coming mate!

Hi Nigel

Great update , fleshwork is looking good .....I can't see the figure yet alone the eyes !....lol that's why I paint busts

Each of these faces show a lot of emotion and looking at the figures they are full of nice details and conversion from you

Looking forward to seeing more

Thanks for the support Oda, Mike, Kev and Ken, much appreciated(y) The flesh has gone well, I'm struggling a bit to get the uniforms to a similar level but as they say, every day is a school day. I'll post some more photos next week to get some feedback.

Hi Nigel, your idea, the subject and the way you carry on ... all great!
My two cents for the slings: I build figures in 1/24th but I think it may work in 1/35th too.
I use tiny strips of common copy paper; I wet it with cyanoacrilic glue and it becomes strong enough to keep the shape I give.
Here an example: the straps for the pouches are made in the way I described.
Cheers!

Here sambrowne (strap and belt), holster and peak cap made with paper and glue.

Thanks, great idea. I just bought some VMS "paper shaper" which is intended for this sort of thing, I will definitely give that a try.

Yep, I think it can work, just be careful with tiny strips; cyan-glue strenghtens the paper in shape (I can even gently sandpaper it), paper shaper, as well as diluted common white glue softens it and very tiny strips may easily break.
Eager to see next steps of your model! ;)

The first figure is done. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. My brushwork with acrylics is still a bit "rough" but I don't think I can do much better, especially in 1/35. Opinions welcomed - do some of the highlights/shadows need pushing a bit more, especially on the trousers? Note that the boots will be weathered a bit more at the final assembly stage.

Blimey they are big! Pretty scary seeing the pics this large......

I'm now on the final stretch. The remaining figures are nearly finished, the base is ready, I just have the rifles and slings left to do and then it can all be put together. Hoping to get it done for the South West Model Show at Bovington this weekend.

Here's a couple of the figures that are completely finished (sans rifles):

It's been a right pain painting all the equipment in such a tiny scale. I think next time I will choose simpler subjects in a larger scale!

The figures turned out ok. I'm still trying to learn various new techniques with acrylics, so every day is a school day......

Hi Nigel

Those figures look good Nice work on the equipment so it's all worthwhile

I like the trouser and kept reds

Look forward to seeing more on these

Happy benchtime
