Ah!! But you are talking about a country that was divided Ron, Eire and Ulster. But Scotland has not been divided, you have not got Scot fighting Scot, well not yet.

never been to an old firm match then?, when rangers play celtic the hospital take on more staff to handle the casualties. every time they play,/badger

whats wrong with being scots irish, half the population of Scotland had irish grannies, due to coming over here to work in the jute mills./badger

I'm Scottish and I'm getting a bit weary of this independence *****, which is not going to happen anyway,so I apologise to my English friends and other nationalities that this topic must be boring the arse off.
60% 0f Scottish don't want independence that's 6 out of every 10 folk. The other 4 folk about 2 1/2 will probably vote yes and then you've got the don't knows who are waiting for a divine revelation to make their minds up for them (fence sitters).I'm convinced that Alex Salmond knows he's on a loser as he's stated that if he doesnae win this time we'll have another referendum in 2029.
The best Salmond knows he'll get out of this referendum is more devolved government e.g. tax raising powers etc, etc, etc. but to realise that ,he would have to get about 40% of the vote, which I don't see happening.
I just don't see why we would want to change something that's working well.Where else in this planet has a country united with another and done so well.Ukraine? I think not.
Ask yourselves this before putting your cross on the ballot paper "would you buy a second hand car from Salmond"????

I agree with brian,to go independent would be a mistake, the only way to handle the pressures on the country is to remain united. if the people want change then they should vote for a change in government, get rid of the torries,i am not sure who would replace them, but whoever does will have to listen more to the majority of people in this country who are fed up of people getting into parliament and then not giving a **** about them. as I said before I am proud of being Scottish, and am equally proud of being british./badger

I've been gone too long to get (or deserve) the vote but I've yet to talk to a Scot, here or in the auld country, who is for it......Scots on this site are a prime example. Strength in numbers(y)

Couldn't agree more Brian. It'll never happen. I'll be surprised if the rebels get close to 25% of the vote when it comes down to it. Rule Brittania !

No offence taken Steve, you should have used the original first.Being a Scotsman you've got to have the ability to laugh at yourself,an attribute we Scots have in spades.Gives the Irish a wee break!!
My sister who lives in London for about 50 years told me once that the Scottish are the most evenly balanced people there is,they have a chip on both shoulders!!!
