NB - the turned up brim is the same width as the other side. From your pics it looks much wider than the other side.....(y)

Thank you ....there are many variations in the references , turned up at different heights ...but I will have a look , might be the pics as well

I did reduce the brim by about 2mm before fitting the crown

The slouch is now in place , will tidy up ready for painting

this might indicate what I mean, a little more clearly.....

I think you are likely to start chasing your tail with this, as it is. I would mark out the diameter of the hat flat, then mark out the diameter of the crown on rolled out putty. Add an approximation of the crown to get the balance, then add the turnup and adjust accordingly. If the hat was new, then the turnup would be quite a soft curve, but looking at the pics, many look well-worn!

As it is, it resembles a Hardee hat, with an asymmetric brim.....(y)

Fantastic modelling Kev but it looks like you might have some work to do..... Or you could just live with it as it is?

Currently work in progress ......removed the crown safely, now carefully sanding back the oversized side

Will then get the new size crown sorted

Stay tuned

Hi everyone

Just received this info from Mick ref the slouch ...many thanks

Although the folding forage cap was to be abolished by 1902, the effects of the Boer War were being made apparent at home and photographs show that by late 1900 and 1901 slouch or bush hats were being worn for some undress occasions and especially for field exercises.
They were usually light tan with the left brim turned up and, increasingly with a regimental badge.

Some regiments such as the 2nd Dragoon Guards did not have the brim turned up.

No puggaree appears to have been worn at home as a brown leather band was worn around the crown.

Hi everyone

Redid the slouch ....twice...! Think I might slightly reduce the brim thickness and a little more tidy up then it's primer and basecoats

New Rosette and badge done as well as texturing the hair ...oh and replacing the moustache ends ......AGAIN !!!

It's been " interesting "to say the least making the slouch ...and I learnt one or two new words !...lol
