Frustration is an inevitable part of the hobby but it's looking good now. The hats were supposed to be mainly for Yeomanry as the War Office wanted to do away with full dress and for use by volunteer battalions. The blame for them lays with the New South Wales Lancers who wore them with their khaki full dress at one of the many state occasions around the turn of the century. As with most decrees involving uniform what the War Office said was seen as an amusing anecdote by most commanding officers both regular and volunteer, it's what makes the British Army so interesting.

Yes, you've hit the odd snag, but that putty pushing is impressive, beyond my capability.

Cheers Malc ...the "Odd Snag" , should have thought the build out better ...we live and learn...priming in black then basecoat , will repaint the flesh forehead ...adding shadow under the brim

Hope your going to get this finished for Bugle call mate, nice to see it in the flesh so to speak.
Between me and Jimbo, we will teach you a few more of the Kings English.

Looking good Kev, the face is great as is the hat. Could be daring and go for ginger on the hair!

Cheers Simon

I think khaki was more a suggestion in those days than a recognised colour, then sun bleaching and sweat and rain changed this so whatever colour you do you ain't gonna be wrong. The eye just stings and I'll be able to focus again in four or five hours so no painting for me until tomorrow.

Cheers Simon

Face and hair look good Kev, there is a fair bit of age in his face, full of character brought to life with the paint. Looking forward to the leather of the bandolier.
