I've been playing with my paints on the helmet, first the polished steel, I mixed Vallejo 836/161 London Grey with docrafts Artiste pearl medium and some drying retarder, and applied this to the steel areas, then added a dash of Vallejo 898/048 Dark Sea Blue to the mix and watered it down to a wash and painted around the edges in stages and blended it with a damp brush. I added slightly wet neat Pearl Medium to the centre of the areas of the steel to give a polished look, which doesn't show too well in the pics.
For the brass areas I used a base coat of Vallejo 914/119 Green Ochre.

Once the paint is dry I used Citadel Agrax Earthshade wash over the brass areas and just going carefully over the edges.

This will be my base for the Green Ochre/ Pearl Medium mix to lightly go over the raised areas, but that will be later.

At it early this morning, now for the brass look on the helmet.
Mixed Green Ochre and the pearl medium, and to darken it a bit added some Flat Brown 983/143 and applied it lightly to the brass so it doesn't go into the recesses.

I don't normally use Black but wanted to really show some depth to the helmet plume so watered down some and brush it in well, will work on that later. Painted the top part of the tunic above the Cuirass a mix of 898/048 Dark Sea Blue and 899/050 Dark Prussian Blue, then when dry I can get to the collar braid OK. The collar braid was blocked in using 877/126 Gold Brown.

Next step will be to use the same Citadel wash as I did on the brass bits of the helmet once the paint is dry and I've had a coffee and walk about to get the legs working.

Thanks mate, I have now done the steel part of the cuirass and blocked in all the rest of the bust, now for the interesting bits, really enjoying him, but shopping calls to top up after the snow, so hope to do a bit more later.

Geoff

The steel of the Cuirass has been given the paint/ pearl treatment and everything else has been given a blocked in colour apart from the Waterloo Medal which I shall leave till later.

Now the fun begins with all the detailing. first the Cuirass shoulder straps, then the cross-belt and waist belt, followed by the shoulder cords and epaulettes. I'm really enjoying painting him.

Thanks Nap, I have now given the brass/gold work a wash of Citadel Earth Wash to deepen the creases and help the highlighting with the paint/pearl mix.

This is now left to dry then the paint/pearl mix for each colour will start tomorrow.

Geoff

This morning I added the colour /Pearl medium mix to the brass and gold areas, I went very lightly over the cross belt and epaulettes so I didn't fill in the detail that the wash picked out. I then lightened the gold/ pearl mix by using a tad more pearl medium and then went over selected areas to pick out some highlights, also the stud heads were picked out with a lightened shade of their required colour. The Waterloo Medal and ribbon was then painted.

Now to tackle the plume.
