Hi. I just bought nice model made from resin. I prepared it etc... and i primed it, but spray gone bad  what should i do now ? I must clean it but i dont know how ;( I tried Breaker fluid, but it destroys resin before the paint go off :( I heard about something like Ever Green, but i cant find it in Poland.. anyone know good method ? Please help, its not nice to lose model which you just bought.. in desperation 'Pronto", spray used to polish etc wood.. and it actually helps a bit, but just a bit:/ i think about trying to let it stay on mini while longer but i afraid..

Use oven cleaner. Easy-Off is what I use. It doesn't affect any resins I've used it on. I have used brake fluid before and it will remove the paint, but it will attack some resins. Good luck.

Err, the problem is, that i cant get Oven cleaner and most of other stuff here.. or it have other name.. can you tell me what are the ingredments ? Maybe i will find something similar..

Edit: i found CIF power cream- it is used to clean kitchen from fat etc. Has anyone tried it ?

If it helps you any, and I suspect it won't, these are the major chemicals in "Easy-Off" oven cleaner. I just thought you might be able to come up with a Polish oven cleaner with a similar chemistry. The EU has household product ingredient disclosure rules that are similar to the US.

This is an aerosol, spray-on product and butane is the propellant. It has nothing to do with cleaning. The "CAS No" means the chemical abstracts number which is specific for the chemical.

Chemical/ CAS No / Unique ID Percent
Butane/ 000106-97-8 / 1-5%
Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether/ 000112-34-5 / 1-5%
Monoethanolamine (MEA)/ 000141-43-5 / less than 5%
Sodium hydroxide / 001310-73-2 / less than 5%

Keep this stuff off bare skin and out of your eyes. The other three chemicals are all skin irritants. The best way to use it is to put the piece you want to strip in a plastic sandwich bag, spray on the "Easy-Off", close the bag and let it sit overnight.

All the best,
Dan

Hi all!

Hey Simon!I know you use acrylic spray so you could use NitroCellular Dilluter(I'm sure you can find it in Poland,it's necessary to wall-painters ;) ).So handle an old tooth brush, dive it in the dilluter and brush the figure.Don't dive the resin figure in the dilluter! If it stays long it may be destroied!once the spay is off wash the figure very well with water.

However, you'd better try it with a little piece of resin you don't need.I know it that NitroC doesn't hurt the epoxy clay(if they stay in cantact for short time...),but I don't know what will happen with your resin...I guess there will be no pro...

Watch your hand my friend! This liquid may cause you injury,if it stays in cantact with your skin long!Wash your hands very well with soap and water!Don't remove the paint from the figure inside the house! This dilluter is highly toxical! If you can find a mask or something, use it!

Good luck!

Hi Simon..As an English guy now working and living in Warsaw I can sympathise with you. Many products I can get in London are just not available here.Future just being the least:-( You can though find oven cleaner...MR MUSCLE spray oven cleaner...another J&J product which IS in the shops in Warsaw.
PS...Don't forget to really really clean your resin well before priming. Some release agents are very tenacious.

Simon,

With my forelast figure i became an expert in striping paint.
Out of experience i can recomend you MR MUSCLE. It is an oven cleaner. As Jim, sayd. it is available in Warsaw.

I was curious about the chemistry of Mr. Muscle vs. Easy-Off, so I looked up Mr. Muscle. It contains:

Chemical CAS # %
Diethylene glycol butyl ether 112-34-5 10-15%
Sodium hydroxide 1310-73-2 1-5%
Monoethanolamine 141-43-5 1-5%
Hydrated magnesium
aluminum silicate 12199-37-0 1-5%
Isobutane 75-28-5 1-5%
Butane 101-97-8 1-5%
Water 60-90%

This is a water suspension of cleaning solvents in an aerosol spray, the two butanes being the propellant.

The aerosol (mist) of this product is corrosive to eyes and skin and will irritate the respiratory tract if inhaled. I would use it roughly the same way as the Easy-Off. Put the figure in a plastic bag, spray it into the bag until the foam covers the figure and seal the bag. I would use rubber gloves and avoid breathing it. If you get it in your eyes accidentally, flush with plenty of water right away. This is not an inherently dangerous product - my wife uses it - but you have to respect it and use it carefully.

All the best,
Dan
