Hi Kev
Happy new year to you too!
The armour is made from plastic card punched out with an office hole punch. Even with a new punch there is a bit of a frill on the discs so they all need sanding before painting. Bit of a pain but I think it worked ok, there are about 200 discs. I cut a sheet of lead to attach them to. I made a paper template first to get the drop and shape right, formed it on the model then found a paint can with the same curvature and taped the top of it which is now glued behind the collar to the can. Then I built up the lamellar layers. Took about 3 days.
Ah the joys of retirement!
For the base I discussed it with Richard at Euro then I modelled a pattern with plasticine, I bought some bulk years ago to get base dimensions right for bespoke bases. I sent a drawing to Richard who made if for me and we checked against the elephant on Hugo’s stand at Telford. Richard came up trumps as always. It’s 20cm high and 10cm wide.
Main thing is getting the hole drilled at the right angle so the Mahout is upright. It’s fixed with a 140mm coach bolt and the visible bit is sheathed in 8mm brass tube.
Cheers
Neil
