Hi guys

I’ve been through some difficult life changes over the past 6 months so I haven’t been actively modelling until recently. I was invited to judge a local miniature model competition a couple of weekends ago in Perth ( we are and have been Covid-19 free since May) and I entered the comp for fun and walked away with a bronze, silver and gold and Best in Show. My prize was a gift voucher, which I redeemed for this stunning piece by Journeyman Miniatures.

The Morrigan is a Celtic goddess who is reputed to be the goddess of war.

My plan, at this stage, is to make a box diorama and use LED lighting to replace the candle flames.

I’m keen to get your thoughts and any helpful suggestions.

Tony someone else posted this figure a few weeks ago and it grabbed my attention, I don't think that I would be in a position to offer you any advice but I will be watching your journey, I suppose if you are placing this into a light box there is an option to have the silhouettes of warriors merged into the background.

Hi Tony,
That is a lovely figure, really looking forward to this one. My interest in mythical subjects have been really peaked after watching Viking's again.
A few pics from the website.

Because this is 75mm scale is might be worth drilling one the candles out from underneath and testing how it would look with one L.E.D. but you will need a miniature/micro flickering LED. I presume you can get them as there are loads of artificial candles on the market.
cheers

Congrats all round, I like the ideas put forward so far, my in put would be to have a figure kneeling before her, either bowing to his queen or begging for his life..
Are you going to show us your award winning figures. (y)

Hi Tony

Hi Warren

Thanks for your comments, and indeed thanks to everyone for their input.

My Maori Warrior bust won Gold and Best in Show. It’s an oldie, but a goodie.

Silver went to 75mm figure of Boronir from LOTR and Bronze to a modified bust of Tyrion Lannister from GOT.

Sorry to hear you've had some challenges with life Tony - been a weird time for many.
Trust all sorted soon & good seeing you're being pulled back to the bench.
Nice to see your take on Pegaso's classic Māori bust.
Hang in there cobber.

Hi guys

Thanks for all your comments and encouragement.

The concept is taking shape.

A $5 box used to crafty cover for a box of tissues has be re-purposed for The Morrigan’s throne room.

I’m thinking of filling the oval shaped hole at the rear with a broken stained glass window, that allows her crows to come and go.

Carved some rough hewn stone steps to give her throne some elevation. What do you guys think?

I started this beautifull sculpt a few weeks ago, with the plan to do a OSL scheme which, i must admit, I utterly failed to pull off...:censored::).
I've started something else meanwhile (nearly fininshed now), to clear my mind as too how to do this one. I'm going to folllow yours with intererest, as she's sitting on my shelf, staring at me, in a rather mocking way... and i cant wait to get started on her again.

Hi Henk

If you’re brave enough to share a photo of her, I’d welcome the opportunity to learn more. I’m not brave enough to try OSL on this one. That’s why I’m looking for LED flickering candles in 1/24th scale.

I’m looking at how to drill out the candles from below, replace the resin flame with an LED, and use others to shine moonlight through the broken stained glass window behind her head.

I’m also tempted to do some lighting from above but hidden from view, and side lighting to show a fireplace glow.

It’s about the atmospherics in this scene so lighting is really important.

I’ve just finished prepping the parts, cleaned up some very minor flash and seam lines, washed and primed in black overall and grey from above.

I’ll provide another update soon. Before I lift a brush in anger, I first have to sort out the plans for the presentation and especially the lighting.

Please share a WIP pic so I can see how far you got before you moved on.
