Hi Paul, sorry I haven't replied earlier. Magicsculpt is superior to Milliput in many ways, it won't stick to your finger like milliput, it takes shaping with tool and brush much easier as well. It can be filed, polished, drilled and carved just like milliput and brush and tools clean up nicely with screenwash. Of the two, I'd never buy milliput again, unless to fix leaky pipes as it is a plumbers seal primarily.

I have been duty Grandad for a couple of days, so good to get back to the bench. Anyway I've started repairs on the saddle surgery, though I need to do more cutting as now the crease on the saddlecloth looks out of place. Then I'll concentrate on the Lancer himself.

I'm watching your work on the horse, Simon, to learn something ahead of some conversion work I want to do on some Imrie-Risley horses.
I wonder if his mane should lie a little more towards the vertical, since he's standing still?

Damn I was hoping no one would notice, but of course you are correct and yes it needs redoing! Another entry on the to do list, thanks though because I would have been tempted to leave it.

Today has been a good day, I have more done on the saddle and added the lead rein, some straps to the front 'hump' of the saddle and leather padding below the saddle seat. I'm going to remove the mane and redo that as well, cheers Brad!
On the Lancer I have added the trouser stripes and the piping between the lace, I have started the lace edging to the dolman, still got the back to do. His drooping plume is done, the undersides of the top of the lance cap are now done, I will paint the lines in. Done more to the helmet plate and added the lion head bosses for the chin chains, oh and given him a suitable 'tash.

Cheers Nigel, I have recently painted my first horse in too many years. I reverted to oils as that's how I did them in the past, not sure I'm upto doing one in acrylic. That said I probably used acrylic techniques, building up the various shades, highlights and mid tones but was able to wet blend if that makes sense.
I need to take a more upto date picture but I have a cat fast asleep across my chest and shoulders so I'm stuck in my arm chair for now. By the way are you going to be at the BMSS Annuals in Reading this weekend?

Some good modelling there , like the lace on the trousers etc ...still fascinating how you work with paper ...but it works well for sure

Cheers Malanie, yes oils are perfect for horses, though I think I might do more underpainting in acrylics than just a block colour in future and rely on the transparency of oils more.

Cheers Kev, between you and Brad I'm almost rebuilding this figure! You like Brad was are right though, will have a play and try not to destroy the lance cap in the process. The Annuals are always a riveting experience! Well they used to be when they were in Wandsworth, that's almost ancient history now.
