Ron, the sculpt is amazing, and you are doing it every bit of justice and then some (y)
Looking forward to seeing more!

Hi Ron,
Great start(y). Steve Kirtley had one of these with him at our last club meet and it's an impressive piece of resin, so I know where you are coming from with regards to the ergonomics.
cheers
Richie

It certainly has all the detail a painter could wish for Phil.

The size is the real challenge....not just in the handling...but in the scope for adding depth and contrast to an already detailed subject.

Thanks for comment mate.

Each time I hold it I am taken aback by how much resin must have gone into this piece!

Cheers for comment mate.

Hi Ron

Coming on nicely , think I will be mounting my elephant on a base first and then going tongue gym

Following with interest it's a great SBS

Nap

You might want to rethink mounting it on it's base to paint....I looked at all the options before I started....and...although it seems a good idea...consider not only how you will get to all the areas of the head...but also...given that it is hard to handle already....add what will be a fair sized base to it...and it increases the difficulty even more....a hard choice.

Glad your following it's progress mate.

That's very valid points there Ron

Have you thought about the base size yet or is it too early ?

Will be the wise words from you very closely

I got a base for him at Euro mate....from 'Darkstar'....very good price (y)
I will get a picture of it and post it with the next update....and include the size etc. ;)

Meant to say....pleasure to meet you at Euro :)

First off....as promised...a couple of pics of the base for Nap.
It is 135mm across the top....and 50mm high.

Hope that helps mate.

Right...now onto progress with head.
I have now layered in the darker shadow layer using a transparent mix so as not to overpower the base layer itself....this was applied as a scrub coat...then followed the usual thinning back...with selected ares then gently lightened further by dabbing with a make up sponge to maintain the areas that will become the hi lites.

With this done I returned to the tusks.
To reinforce the wear etc. ....I gave them a wash with sepia ink...which was then gently lifted off in places to maintain a light colour....when dry they were given a coat of matt sealer....and I then applied a scrub coat of W&N Transparent White...which again was lifted with a make up sponge.

Next stage on the head will be to introduce the mid tones...followed by the hi lites...then I will put in the darkest top skin tones.

to be continued......

I didn’t imagine the bust is so big... lol... lol... it’s hugeeee...

Congratulations for this amazing job... it’s AMAZING...

Thank you so much.
Regards
Hugo

No mate...got it at Euro from 'Darkstar' ;)

Wow....That IS a beast in more ways than one, and the trunk isn't even on yet....You may need a bigger base. That one is very tempting but maybe too late. I guess digital does have its place. I like my crow breaded and deep fried. Looks great Ron.
